Thats a good question. I guess it's just because we all have pre-concieved notions about people with different styles. IE- A woman with a bald /shaved head is either a lesbian or a cancer patient. And a man with long hair is clearly in a rock band. We need to get past those stereotypes. I say do what makes you happy, forget the rest of the world. I wear my hair short (not too short, but short) I have guy friends who freak out about it because a "woman should have long hair" I tell them I'll grow my hair long but they gotta come over every day and wash it, brush it, style it for me..and until they agree to do that, quit complaining. Its my hair, its on my head, I'll do what I want with it. I say if you want to shave your head....shave your head!

Three years ago, I had peacock blue hair with a platinum-blonde layer underneath. I did this for my 34th birthday, and I found that people were incredibly rude toward me. Men who normally would hold doors open when my hair was brown would not. I didn't change on the inside; they perceived me as a rebel and therefore ready to overturn their little safe world.
What I discovered with my blue hair? That expressing yourself as an individual is not easy, but the benefits outweigh the negatives. Remember it wasn't so long ago that men who sported long hair were disallowed jobs because they were considered freaks. Shaving your head, if you choose to do so, is a means to express yourself and I think you should do it, if that is what you want. Personally? If I saw you on the street, I'd applaud you for breaking the "social rules" that men wear pants and have short or no hair and women wear tight dresses and have long wavy, luxurious hair.
Plus, there are some fantastic large temporary tattoos out there to decorate your scalp with once you're bald; you could turn your bare head into art!

It's cultural. In the western world long hair is equated with beauty and femininity. Women with bald heads are viewed as unfeminine (and by implication possibly lesbian), and therefore people look askance at women who would shave themselves bald. The best place for a bald girl is the Masai tribe in Kenya. It's complete role reversal--from a western standpoint--the women are bald and the men have long, twisted locks. In sum, if a girl wants to shave her head, I see nothing wrong with that personally. It's really not a moral issue at all. Said girl should just prepare herself for the odd looks that will come her way as a member of this culture.

It's ultimately a personal choice.
If a girl wants to be a skinhead, that's up to her.
If a girl shaves her locks for charity (in support of cancer patients), she's doing a great thing.
I guess it's only natural for humans to pass judgements on everything and anything. It is already so common for men to have clean-shaven heads but not so for women.
It takes time for everyone to get used to seeing some females with their heads shaved.

It is just that hair has always been one of women's more attractive features. If it is well cared for it can look good at any age.
Buddhist women monks do shave their heads tho, because ultimately it is a vanity thing.
Actually each person should do what works for them, neither is really right or wrong unless you spend hours obsessing over it.

well usually When you think of a girl with long beautiful hair i mean thing about in all the stories your parents have ever told you most of the girls have very long hair...Im not trying to say people are thinking about fairytales when they make that judgement it's just what people think but
but in some cultures it is formal to have a shaved hair you are a female it's just there culture
Most of the people in the amerincan culture (since it's a free country and there's no rule about hair) think women should have lots of hair because of there background/culture

They're bound to look because it's unusual (and they make think that she's darned cold!). But some women look great like that - Demi Moore in GI Jane or Persis Khamabatta in Star Trek.
Looking's one thing - saying something negative is going too far. So I'd respond by wishing them well when it's their turn to have chemotherapy, if really annoyed.

I don't turn my head and say something negative, I think it looks pretty cool. (Hello, G.I. Jane and what's her name in V for Vendetta). But as far as why it's not considered normal, I guess that's just because not so many people do it. It's not very common, and generally it takes a while for society to adjust to radically different styles.

I think its ok, if you want to try short hair to feel what its like. Suddenly everything is a lot cooler.
I don't judge women who shave their head, and even dated one in high school, much to the chragrin of my pears.
