I graduated from Lehigh University in Pennsylvania with 2.7 overall GPA. I have worked for a large environmental consulting firm and a large environmental laboratory for a combined 2 years. I have also taken a PhD level course at Columbia in Environmental Health, and have a good recommendation from the proffesor of that class. I got a 1360 on the GRE's. I am interested in going into an environmental science program with a concentration in Marine Science, but all the programs I can find on the internet have a minimum 3.0 GPA. They tell me this doesn't matter, but I don't no if I believe them. What is your take on my situation, do I stand a chance of getting in regardless of the GPA thing?

I can tell you how to get into graduate school.

1. Sign up to take 1 course at the graduate level, and provide whatever transcripts they need.

2. Get the highest grade possible, for you in that one course.

3. When you are half way through your master's they will force you to take the GMA or GRE - entrance exam (which means nothing since you already have taken at least 1 or 2 courses and have established that you can do the work).

4. Then they accept you and you continue to study!

5. Let no one tell you no that you accept as a final answer, and smile as anyone tells you no.
Now, you will succeed and it's only a matter of time, and smiling through your determination.

I graduated with about the same GPA in biological science from my university and I got into a good graduate program in forensic science despite the GPA. I got a 1320 on the GRE. I think that admissions mostly looks at the GRE score. You might want to check and see what the GRE requirements are at the particular school you're interested in. Good Luck!
