Two reasons.
1. They buy into what Hollywood (Practical Magic, The Covenant) and television (Charmed, Bewitched) and storybooks (Hansel and Gretel, Snow White) have made Witchcraft out to be.
2. It says in the bible that it's wrong.
Both of these things are examples of people who cannot and will not think for themselves and actually research what real Witchcraft is. As a Witch, I know what you mean. I hear the ignorance all the time. Just educate then through your good actions.
Blessed be.

Although I'm an atheist I am supportive of Witchcraft. I've known some Wiccan friends and studied in my younger years and I found it quite encompassing of others. It didn't seem to breed hatred and it's tolerance is far above other religions. It also blends pseudo-science which is one of the conditions of my atheism, i owuld have no problem with spiritual or divine energies if they could one day be proved by science or they could demonstrate to affect the world. And instead of saying this would destroy faith and the divine aspects of witchcraft accept this, such as scrying, divination and psychic abilities. Hence I found it very compatible with what I beleived and what I thought a religion should be which is a support for people without indoctrination or rigidity. Unfortunately I have never felt a spiritual connection so i remain Atheist, but it does give me reason to hope about spirituality.

Wicca is not bad as this is white witchcraft revolving around nature and the earth itself there are many forms of witchcraft some dark and should not be dabbled in. Wiccans are not those who dabble in black magic as they believe any bad done with the craft will come back on you seven fold.

I believe most people do not really know what wicca/witchcraft actually is and are influenced by the popular culture view of witches being gnarled evil women who worship the devil, or something along those lines.
Others I think are similarly ignorant and see people calling themselves witches as being 'weird', rather like saying you are a Vampire, or Wearwolf (sp?).
Then there are others, who have heard of the religion, have known followers and have a little bit of knowledge who are at ease with the religion.

Becuase, unlike some other supposedly 'minority groups' wicca, IS a minority group, and people are so small minded that they just assume you worship the devil. Most people have never heard the rule of 'An' ye no harm done, do what ye will'
and even though it is called 'witchcraft' its not traditional witchcraft, with long pointy noses and warts, people just haven't open their eyes yet. :-)

Because as Christianity spread, the old religions were demonised in order to "spread the word". Books such as Malleus Maleficarum (the Witches' Hammer) just fuelled the hysteria about witches, devils, etc. There are bad witches of course, the same as there are bad people of any religion or none, but mostly it's just fear, ignorance and downright refusal to see anyone else's viewpoint.

I don't know a lot about it. I have a close friend who used to be involved and she tells me that it is bad. I can't argue with a person's personal experience.
I would also venture that if witches are doing things with a supernatural power that is not God's power, He views that as bad. If one believes in God and Satan, as I do, There are only 2 powers available, and if it's not God you're serving, it is Satan.
Those who believe in God must believe that serving Satan is bad. Bad in the sense that it separates one from their eternal loving Father God. He wants all people to come to Him, so it sadens Him when people choose to not acknowledge Him.

I think that only Christians and the followers of other religions think that Wicca is bad, but then they think that any religion that isn't their own is bad.

Witches and Pagans, throughout the couple thousand years have been Demonized by the Christian church. It was a way to keep their flock tithing and on the straight and narrow...can't have sheep thinking for themselves, after all, or they will become the wolves.
