Since you are looking into the mild performance category range, I'd say that the gt is probably faster and handles better, but it isn't going to be too much faster. On the other hand, the impala is going to be better built and be much more roomy and comfortible. It's really all about what's more important to you.

No disrespect to the Impala however the a clean Mustang GT might smoke it. no longer even close. the subject is the place the race grow to be held. If 2 adult males are driving down the line, one might start up formerly the different, one may well be in the incorrect kit, etc, etc. At a drag strip the place it particularly is extra controlled, Mustang GT everytime till the driving force forgets to tutor the motor vehicle on. consistent with possibility decrease back in 1996 it could have been a race. The Mustang then only had 215 HP, so who knows. The Impala grow to be a sturdy motor vehicle in its day, only could no longer carry with a clean Mustang inventory vs inventory.

If its sporty looks and a muscle car feeling ,i'd probably go with the Ford. If you want a more family, conservative look, yet some mild giddy-up, go with the Impala.....Im am more of a Chevy person my self. If I wanted to kick A** on a Ford.....any Ford, go for the 1996 Chevy Impala SS. Ultimate driving machine.

personally i like fords. but if you are a family person. get the impala. if you want a car to show off and you dont have to shove kids in the back, get the mustang!
