I have been getting very painful cramp in my calves the last 2 weeks, firstly what is cramp? Why is it sooo painful? What causes cramp? Remedies?

I play a lot of sport/gym. I seem to get the cramp the morning after I've been out drinking? Link?

You are probably low in potassium, this often causes muscle cramps. Eat a banana at least a 1/2 hour before working out. Also, if you are cramping in the morning after drinking, you are probably dehydrated and you need to drink a lot more water! (and less booze). Cramps are caused by spasms in the muscles and are very painful, not sure of the medical reason why.

A cramp is the muscle tensing up...that is why it's so painful.
I learned this in natural childbirth classes, point your toes to your nose to relieve calf cramping. It really works. Don't know what is causing it...sorry!!!

Its a muscle contraction, in your case also know as shin splints, stretch and limber up more before doing major walking or exercise, also you can be potassium lacking eat more bananas, you can also pick up potassium vitamin.
