No we'll have bases over there for at least the next 10-20 years.

No. To do that we would have to abandon most all military equipment in place and just pull out the people. It takes considerable time to withdraw that much equipment and Kuwait doesn't have the space just to hold it all until we can get it shipped out (well, they would probably rent us some desert at prices that would make Halliburton blush).

There are some big logistics bottlenecks that prevent such a rapid drawdown. We can only fly so many airplanes in and out of Kuwait and their shipping facilities are limited. There is limited ability to house a really large number of troops in Kuwait so we couldn't just tell everyone to head south. Flying Boeing 747's loaded with troops out of Baghdad International would just be asking for tragedy so most of those flights would have to go out of Kuwait.

There will be a draw down but when it happens it will be more on the order of 20K troops per month so the entire process will take several moths.

I hope not. The truth is that we occupied Germany for 5 years after WWII and still have troops stationed there (61 years later). We will be in Iraq for at least as long. Unless we really want to see bloodshed, that is. The largest substantial difference is that in Germany, the government structure was built from the ground up, and the US Government pour billions into rebuilding the German infrastructure (using German construction companies)

I wonder what happened to the Iraqi gov. saying earlier this year "they" would be ready to assume security in major places soon...
lies. Our guys gotta stay there now for an additional reason that this Iraqi gov. can't get a grip on the problem...they wanna plea and negotiate stuff with people we call bad guys...I'm confused.

Anyway...I Salute all of you out in Iraq, Afghanistan, or wherever you might be in harms way....you rock!. And thank you for fighting for my right to enjoy home. All you marines out there...just send the souls of the bad guys to hell, its your job to keep hell packed with fresh one's, we love you all here at home! stay safe.

definitely not. iraq is on the verge of civil war. US feels itself responsible for the mess (and I believe it indirectly is, though, as you, feel pitty for the Americans trapped there)
