I've had the same thing since I started getting more exercise. My weight hasn't gone down in the past several weeks, but my co-workers are commenting on how much I'm shrinking.

It is recommended that you measure yourself as well as weigh. It's very common for people to shrink without losing "weight", especially if you are exercising. Since Atkins gives you adequate protein for muscle building, that's exactly what you are doing with your exercise. Since muscle is more dense than fat, if you increase muscle and reduce fat you will shrink even though your weight may stay the same or even go up.

Don't worry, the weight should eventually drop too.

Situps don't really work to reduce belly size; only aerobic exercise can do that - and it's a slow process.

If you're working out, the reason you're not losing weight is that you're building muscle. Muscle weighs more than fat.

What you need to do is continue working out, and the weight will eventually come off. Don't stay on Adkins too long, as it has side affects that affect you in other ways - like cholesterol and triglycerides. Drink lots of water - that will help as well - stay away from sodas.

Sit-ups build the muscle under the fat on your belly - which will make your belly appear larger. Sit-ups are no good until you've reduced the belly fat via aerobic exercise (I do 30 minutes on an eliptical machine daily). After you've reduced the fat, do crunches, and you'll see a difference.

Just know that this is not going to happen over night!

Good luck!

Sounds like you are gaining muscle, which weighs more then fat. When doing sit-ups make sure you suck your tummy in, otherwise you tend to build the muscle out, and I am sure you do not want to do that. Something I suggest for flattening your tummy is pilates, that works wonders. I think that it is worth the money. Also, don't judge your diet purly on weight lose, since you are working out you are losing fat and gaining muscle. If you dont want to gain muscle dont work out so hard. You should judge your diet on how you feel, and your waist sixe if it is getting smaller and you are gaining weight or staying the same it it because of the muscle you are gaining. Dont worry to much about it as long as you feel you are healthier and you can see a difference you are doing fine.

Fad diets almost always severely cut carbohydrate foods from their lists of recommended consumption. Not only does this sap your energy, it can also harm athletic performance. The fact is, you need carbohydrates for your brain, heart, and muscles, among other vital organs. The main fuel of the brain and central nervous system is glucose, which is most easily obtained from carbohydrates. If carbohydrates remain unavailable for several days the body attempts to conserve essential protein by producing an alternative fuel source known as ketones, made from the partial burning of fatty acids. As the breakdown continues, these ketones build in the blood causing an abnormal condition called ketosis. Initial weight loss is NOT fat but water, as the kidneys attempt to rid the body of excess ketones. Ketogenic diets make the blood more acidic, upsetting the body's chemical balance and causing potentially serious and unpleasant side effects like headaches, bad breath, dizziness, fatigue, and nausea.

In addition, when carbohydrate stores are depleted in the body, the rate at which fat is metabolized is reduced. Carbohydrates are therefore essential in the ability to metabolize fat.

It is also true that the body will rely more on free fatty acids for fuel when muscle glycogen is depleted, but the body will rely much more on amino acids (protein) supplied from the breakdown of lean tissue. So while you may burn fat, you will also burn more muscle.

You diet should be broken down into 17% fat, 33% protein, and 50% carbs.

Good Luck: Train Hard

Muscle weighs more than fat. When you are building muscle, your weight will not always go down. It often stabilizes or goes up a little. Don't worry about it.Pay more attention to how your clothes are fitting than a number on a scale, seriously!

If you are doing sit-ups with any additional kind of weight, lose the weight. It gives you bulging stomach muscles. It also depends on how you are doing the sit-ups. If you aren't doing sit-ups with extra weight, then try crunches instead.

I am a big-opposer to the Atkins Diet. While it works for SOME, the positive weight-loss effects are short-term, only until you start eating carbs again. It also has some bad long-term results--all the high fat meats you eat can increase your risk for heart disease!
I'd advise just eating a well-balanced low calorie diet (1200 to 1600 for women), (1600 to 2000 for men), with lots of fiber, complex carbs (whole-grain/whole-wheat), LEAN protein (white meats, or extra lean red meats, but mostly white!), and GOOD fats (mono and polyunsaturated fats! Avoid saturated & trans fats--theres PLENTY of artery-clogging saturated fats in the Atkins Diet).

Also, just do 30-60 minutes of exercise per day too, it can be light, such as walking or jogging, or you can do running, biking, sprinting, lifting, etc. But please change to a healthier lifestyle than the Atkins diet, that only sets you up for failure and unhealthy hearts in the long run.

Your first mistake is doing the Atkins diet. In the long run, you will do your body more harm than good.

When you workout, you will gain muscle mass. Muscle mass adds weight. Weight displays on the scale. This is why it's a bad idea to use the scale as your guide.

You want to "measure" yourself in the areas of your concern. When you view the measurment decreasing, you are reaching your goal.

You are building muscle and muscle weighs more than fat. Don't be so focused on the scale! Just note how your body is changing and getting more toned as well as how your clothes are fitting you. Good luck!
