I hate the way lots of people - obviously ignorant, assume that if you are overweight you're lazy. The truth is, it isn't always laziness - it can be due to underactive thyroid glands and low metabolism. I happen to know some very lazy people who are skinny and some of the hardest working and physical people are overweight. It would be a much nicer world if people were judged on their personalities rather than their height, colour, size and looks.

Yes, certainly.

Obesity is a condition in which the natural energy reserve, stored in the fatty tissue of humans and other mammals, is increased to a point where it is a risk factor for certain health conditions or increased mortality. Obesity develops from the interaction of individual biology and the environment. Excessive body weight has been shown to predispose to various diseases, particularly cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellitus type 2, sleep apnea, and osteoarthritis. Obesity is both an individual clinical condition and is increasingly viewed as a serious public health problem.

obesity is only a disease in the majority of cases, only if they consider alcoholism a disease. I believe the majority of obesity cases are a result to food addiction. if you want to call addictions diseases then yes, if not, then no.

what i would like to say to obese people is this:

Why don't you simply exercise more? food..everyone misses the most important aspect..exercise...if people would exercise more they would not have to worry so darn much about food...Are you really serious about doing this? We are talking about hard work. Putting down your little debbies, getting off your butt and not only going on a diet but EXERCISING!!! Even if you lose the weight it will come right back if you do not have the desire and motivation to not only look cute but to be healthy. it is going to take alot of inner strength I can assure you of that.

1.) eat 4-5 small meals a day

2.) drink lots of water

3.)exercise every day

4.) do not eat 4-6 hours before you sleep.

No, it's a form of laziness. People say it's a disease so they have an excuse for letting themselves get that way.

Yes, it can be caused by thyroid problems, diabetes and it can be an eating disorder just like aneroxia and bulimia. just to mention a few. not all overweight people are lazy as some of our insensitive answers seem to think.

No. Some obese people would say it is because it's easier to blame something else than to blame themself.
