once again, i know you said no teas, but roobios red tea (red tea) is a beverage brewed like tea, but has no caffeine. it has all the antioxidents and benefits of green tea, plus is soothing to the throat (especially with a bit of honey...mmmmm....)
i drink it when i'm congested. clears my lungs right up :)

No Dairy before you sing!!! I know you said no teas but, you need something warm like tea. you can buy fresh mint or grow your own and make tea from that. Also, eat lemon every once and a while, it's not great for your teeth but it helps with your voice/throat. Gargle with tea spoon of salt in a cup of warm water. Try laying on your back and slowly reaching the note. This will help train your body and throat. Open the throat, sit up straight, from the diaphragm... teachers always tell you this but few show you how to do it. If you have allergies take you Clariton D as directed and sleep with a humidifier if it is dry were you live or just very cold and your family uses the heater all day long.
Talk this all over with you voice coach. If he has any genuine disagreement then listen to him/her. If they act like it is all new advice to them then maybe you should look for a new voice coach.

If your voice needs to be soothed after or before a vocal lesson, something is wrong. You might be in the wrong key for your voice type. The only time my voice hurts is when I'm singing something out of my range. Face it, man -- you may have been a tenor before, but you're probably a baritone now, so tell your voice teacher that you want to sing lower pieces. Also, if you're doing an especially high note, try to sing in falsetto if you can.

Try hot cranberry juice- heat up a bit less than a cup of cranberry juice (it has to be real juice, not from concentrate) and bring it almost to a boil, but do not let it boil. Add a splash of lemon juice, and a tablespoon of honey, and drink while it's still warm. It does wonders for your voice, and helps you get over colds.
