I don't! There are alot of people that use the holidays as an excuse to drink! There are to many people that can't have fun with out drinking! I drink when I socialize with friends, but I try to be responsible..........

It probably is one of the few times they do drink in excess. I don't see it as an excuse just a good reason to have fun and stretch a little. A drunk does not need a holiday as an excuse to drink.

Because the holidays can be sooo stressful! All of the family issues come out of the closet as well as lonliness and depression for some people. I'd drink too!

I use pretty much ANY holiday as an excuse to drink to excess. Arbor Day, Lincoln's birthday, Boxing Day, Black History Month -- you name it. Gotta love them holidays.
Seriously, though -- for some people, any celebration is cause for drinking. You can't really prevent it, so roll with it and try not to let them spill champagne on your good tie.

People drink in excess around the holidays because they are off work, their families drive them nuts, they don't have a family, the gifts they gave out sucked, or the gifts they got sucked.

It's not an excuse it's a REASON. Holidays are nothing but stress (christmas anyway). A couple of drinks are highly welcomed in my house to take the edge off the stress.
That's why they call it a "Holly JOLLY Christmas" lol

because drinking to excess with no excuse makes you seem like a lush, if you have an excuse,no matter how lame it takes the stigma away.

Because they get really sad, so they want to forget things. Or they get really happy, so they want to celebrate! It is like food, it is VERY social, and societal related. American culture associates gathering together with food and beverage. Holidays just exaggerate the reasoning!
