How can i purify the water by uv light?

I want to get safe drinking water at home. By using ultraviolet tube
can we make arrangements to purify safe drinking water?If so which type of uv tube is available?How much time the uv light is to
be applied on 5 liters of water? Please help.

istead of doing it urself y dont u buy aquaguard. It has UV , carbon purifier etc.I think this less risky.UV rays can cause skin problems

I lived in Ecuador for 12 years. The tap water was considered safe most of the time. I bought a plastic tube like thing which u put in under the cabinet, the uv was intense enough to harm your eyes so be careful. I don't recall the site but I think it was a site for pets . But they are some ready units available

it depends on the contimanents of water and what u want to pure it from mostly if u pass water thru activated carbon most of the impurities in water will go for contamination of floride etc activated allumina is used this will take care of that problem this is available in conventional filter format so u need not use u v light ensure that the water is stored in activated carbon or allumina chamber for 10 min before it reaches the bottom chamber and also clean this chemicals once in every 6 months and replace it once in every 18 months this i am sure will be effective and ecomomical procedure
