Sometimes when I am watching a movie, the picture will freeze for a few seconds and then start up again. Sometimes it will freeze up completely and I have to power off the player and try again. Usually if it does the latter, I end up not being able to watch the movie. I have tried clean it but that was no help. Any suggestions?

I think there's two possibility first your optical devices (inside DVD player) going weak, not able to read well anymore.
Second you Disc is trouble not a good copy, try another disc.

I have seen this mostly on DVD players trying to play burned DVD's. But, if this is happening with commercial DVD's, then your DVD player would need to be cleaned or repaired. I have found that it is faster and cheaper to just buy another DVD player. If it is under warranty, then by all means have it repaired. You can find progressive DVD players for under $100.

Have you tried a clean and repair kit on specific disk not reading, they do actually work in fixing disks that otherwise have errors like you are having. If that doesn't do it you may need to have your player cleaned.
