Can you find the riddle in this painting?

* This was painted by a person with a rare and severe mental disorder. He was constantly seeing his own fantasies all around him. He also had a certain phobia (undisclosed).
* His (the poster’s) psychiatry professor showed this painting in a lecture, and said there was one tell-tale sign in it that showed the painter’s insanity.
* The professor didn’t say what that sign was, leaving the students to do the guesswork. The only clues he gave was, “don’t look for small details, look at the whole; if you figure out what the phobia was, you’ve got the answer; ask yourself what could have preceded this scene; think of what the place would look like with all the objects removed“.
* The professor said that during the 15 years of his teaching, only one student had figured it out.

Put me on the list to find out what the disorder is. That is an intriguing question. All I can think of is that he was a paranoid schizophrenic, but I don't get the phobia.

The middle horse drawn haystack the person at the reins does not have a whip,..

The middle Horse Drawn Haystack is also on FIRE!

The people on the Horse Drawn Haystack rides are all faceing different directions

There isn't a signature,..

I can't tell if the Horse Drawn Haystack farthest right is actually comeing from next to those trees (because of the line) it may be taken is as coming out of the house in the center,..

The houses do not have doorways

All the humans are the same skin color with about the same structure

Why is the time period so confuseing,... some dudes are in some long john type outfits in one area,.. people are skiiing in another,.. you know the horse in the center Horse Drawn Haystack looks like it has fire around it's neck and as hair,..

All that negative space isn't encouraged these days but I think the artist used on my Grandparents bed set used it to seperate activites/scenes.

Some of the shadows are weird but who cares XD

[Shouldn't is be Pitch Black out at that time of Night,.. why is everyone running around outside,.. doing what appears to be more towards leisure activities instead of carrying things (exception of Skii Sticks, clothes, and instruments)]

wild guess, i'm thinking fear of people. he seems to have everybody together playing and having fun and being at home with the family. it could just be something that he wants to do but can't, how can he be with other people when he is mentally unstable and nobody will ever accept him?

Wow!! I can't figure it out...but I'm very intrigued!!! It all looks very normal to me. Please give us the answer eventually!!!
There only seem to be two horses pulling each of the sleighs, but there is six legs in front?? I'm sure that's not it...
