It wasn't a stable. The word is greek about the Hebrew word which we translate as tabernacles or booths. There is an eight day holiday that is celebrated by pitching temporary shelters because God said so. So it wasn't a place to put animals in, it was a temporary structure for worship on the Feast of Tabernacles.
The word in greek is manger, but it comes from the Hebrew word succah. Look up the feast of Tabernacles, and you'll get a better picture of the whole thing. Jesus was born at the Feast of Tabernacles...John said so in John 1:14. That part about "and dwelt among us," is the exact word IN GREEK for that feast.

this story is a bit of a mis-translation. The inn was not like one of our inns. The places they had as inns had one room with a platform along one wall. The "guests slept on the platform and the animals were kept on the lower level . This way they helped keep the place warm and they were not easily stolen. The word for the platform was the same as the word for the whole building so what the story meant was that when the family arrived at the "inn" the sleeping platform was full so they slept on the lower floor with the animals

It's funny how people have NO problem saying this. I mean Christians.. how can you say that your God was a helpless baby and was in a woman's womb for 9 months, and came out covered in blood and was helpless, couldnt do a THING by himself. Fear God, God is not helpless, He is The Greatest, The Highest. He is One Who deserves to be magnified and praised. He doesn't need ANYONE. He is The Most High, He is the King! It is not God-like to be dependant, to NEED, need FOOD or drink, need to 'PEE'!!
How can say that God needed to answer the call of nature...? Can you imagine God in such a humiliating position?
God is not like this. God is Exalted above this, above ALL this. To Him belongs ALL the praise in the Heavens and the Earth.
Please forgive me, but this is the truth that YOU are telling me, I'm merely putting into words what YOU are telling me, that maybe you don't like to do yourself.
"Allah! None has the right to be worshipped but He, the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber nor sleep overtakes Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His 'Kursi' extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Most High, the Most Great." [Qur'an 2:255]
This is God, doesn't it sound like Him?

It was part of the signs so that only those who had the proper viewpoint would know where to look for him.
Most people would expect, like you say, for the son of god to be born in more luxurious circumstances. However God's word has the habits of making fools of us so that we will learn to humbly look at things from God's point of view, and not self-righteously from our own, which, regardless of our position or experience, is a bit limited anyway.

To make you believe that great things do not necessarily come from wealth. To give you faith, that even if you were born in a stable and your mum keeps spinning you lines like you are the son of God, you don't get disheartened.
Also he suffered for our sins, perhaps it started earlier than the Crucifixion.

Because Christians are willing to accept a little discomfort and some trials before reaching their real lives in their real HOME. Life is not always easy and we as Christians know this, accepts this and we just get stronger.

hey check out the bbc mini-series on religion. They have an interesting theory on the birth of Christ.
The point of Jesus was that He was a humble servant. Not on earth to be treated like a king, but to die a shameful death.
