I wouldn't use them, if the paint is toxic it could potentially get into the meat and make you sick or worse. Putting aluminum foil over the skewers doesn't make any sense, how are you supposed to get the meat on there, the meat will only push the aluminum foil up along the skewer. My suggestion would be spend a couple of bucks and go buy some nice stainless steel ones then you have them the next time you want to make kabobs.

I would not use painted chop sticks. The paint is likely to burn and/or cause fumes that will taint the meat, even with aluminum foil. And the paint seals them so soaking won't help.
You would be better off using a coat hanger, and making sure all of the paint/varnish is sanded off, a brillo pad works well. You can just bend back and forth to break it if you don't have pliers to cut them with.

Rude Lisa!
I'd skip the foil and painted chopsticks, I don't know what the heat would do to the paint. Use toothpicks or just run to the store and buy some skewers.

First you don't know what chemicals are in the paint on the chopticks and second you will probably ruin them as well. Wrapping the sticks in foil first will probably work but I think they will still be ruined as chopsticks.

Yeah. If you cover them with foil. Be careful not to hurt your teeth but if you're out of luck with no chopsticks then it's your only option right? Make sure the the foil is on good especially when you cook it. Hope you enjoy your kabobs!

Yes it is ok to put foil over them but if they are wooden it wouldn't hurt yo soak them in water for a couple of hours. Foil or not, better safe than sorry, right?

without knowing about the painted chop sticks I would say no. Paint may contain lead. You can use metal but I think wood would not withstand cooking temp and would change flavor and safety levels.

Not painted ones.
You don't need skewers...just place them in a pan with the onions and peppers and broil them.Go to the dollar store and invest in a pack of them...about 100 for one dollars and soak them before skcewer them.
