Yikes! this isn't any longer so stable. the 1st element that hits me is a magnesium or potassium deficiency. NOW makes a sturdy magnesium pill (with calcium, diet D and zinc). Get a number of those and take 2 at bedtime for a pair nights - a minimum of one an afternoon after that. Take additionally 2 grams of Taurine. this is an amino acid which you produce often on your physique, yet at sixty 3 you produce a magnificent purchase much less of it than some teenage female. Taurine has many applications in the physique between that's steadying frayed nerves. A cramp such as you describe sounds electric/worried to me. Taurine is utilized by employing some to handle epileptic seizure. Potassium you may get by employing procuring some NoSalt. Take a number of that in the time of your nutrition. i've got pronounced Magnesium/Taurine and a splash Potassium to human beings for 'under pressure leg', and that i've got had stable comments. enable's desire it could cool down those cramps! Holy Crackers, that would not sound like lots exciting. Oh - the better part of this therapy is that this is all genuine inexpensive and actually obtainable.

He needs to stretch...as much as it hurts...try warming the muscles first. When he stretches be sure that he keeps his foot in the normal flattened position and not point the foot...this can make the cramps worse, while stretching and warming have him massage the muscle. If you have any ibuprofen (not acetaminophen)..give him this...it is a muscle relaxant. If none of these methods work he may need something stronger. For this he will need to be seen by a doctor.

Hey Sawyer is correct in recommending the cal/mag supplements. I take mag in a 2to1 ratio to calcium..that means the supplement has twice more mag than calcium..ie. Magnesium @ 800 mg and Calcium @ 400 mg... I take 2 every nite and no more leg cramps. Depending on your Dad's age, check with the health/nutrition expert at your local health food store. I find Magnesium Citrate is the best tolerated and absorbed. You are a great son to be concerned about your Dad-Good Luck!

An old-fashioned remedy is to drink quinine water. Check with a pharmacist to see how much. If he has "restless legs," believe it or not, a bar of soap at the foot of the bed, under the sheets relieves them. No one knows why. But it works! Hope he feels better. Might also try a professional sports massage. They work wonders.

Go to health food store or local grocery store. Buy a mineral supplement that contains both Calcium & Magnesium. There should be twice as much calcium as magnesium, or close to it. They are commonly known as "cal-mags".
This will help calm the muscles & reduce spasms. It's a natural relaxant, too. He can take 1 per meal, or if he has restless leg syndrome, he can take 2 at suppertime before he goes to bed.

Your dad needs a medical evaluation to determine the cause of the cramps and spasms. Muscle cramping is sometimes caused by dehydration. Make sure he is drinking plenty of fluids. They can also be caused by a lack of potassium.
Muscle spasms are generally caused by a pre-existing injury. Again, you need to get your dad to a doctor.

He could try an analgesic. I usually use those and a heating
pad. Sometimes soaking in the tub with good hot water and
epsom salts helps. If the symptoms don't get better, he should
go see a doctor. It may be serious.

I use Quinate tablets 300mg but you need a prescription from your G.P.
2 tablets a night for leg cramps and this works for me and my mother and father.
even my sister who flies alot.
Also I am in Australia so depending were you are I am not sure if you can get it.
Try a deep heat cream or magnetic bracelets.
Also Epsom salt bath which you buy from your super market is really good.good old soak in the bath helps wonders.
Increase his salt intake as he is lacking salt in his diet.
Lack of salt and climate change can increase leg cramps and muscle pain.
Try leg braces to keep his legs warm.ask him to wear slippers or socks when walking around the house.
Ask your doctor for a referral to a physio and ask her/him to get your dad in a hydro pool for exercise as this will also help your father out.
Best of luck
