I can understand your not wanting to go to the gym and I appreciate that you realize your health is at risk. Until you get some of the weight off your back and your ankles are probably going to hurt and for that I am sorry but walking is probably the best thing you can do until you regain some of your stamina. It's good to want to make changes just don't give up if you don't see results right away. Remember to take it slow at first but just getting up and walking is a great place to start. Good luck and keep it up!

I was 85 pounds overweight just one short year ago. .I started doing Pilates 3 times a week (Monday, Weds & Friday) then added a 30 minute walk (Tues, Thursday & Saturday). In the first month it was very hard to stick to the plan. I did what I could as not to hurt myself. After 3 weeks or so I felt stronger and was able to do the whole DVD. I like the pilates cuz it is a mind body and spirt thing. Me in my own zone no worries just me time!!!! Anyway... Start out slow ur body needs to heal after each workout. Do this for yourself and NOBODY else !!!!!! Make better choices eating and lots of water. Measure your waist, chest, thighs and arms then weigh yourself the day u start & write it down. After 10 workouts measure and check weight again if u really do ur best u will see a difference. Do the math and i bet u will have lost at least 6 inches if not 10 over all. Keep measuring every two weeks. Put the scale right by the fridge so u see it before u open the fridge. It will be slow at first just stick with it and 12 weeks later u will see a new person. Get a workout buddy once u are ready it makes the time go by so much faster. When the first dvd is too easy go buy the next level. . reward ur self with new clothes, new workout stuff etc.... not food. I feel and look so much better I really do look forward to working out and walking. Up to 4 miles walking now and it only takes about 45 minutes and I just got the CORE SECRETS ball and dvds u see on tv. If u get bored with something change it up. Walk a new route...get a new dvd. If i can do it u can!!!! I wish u nothing but the best :)

Any exercise will do, remember a pound is 3,500 calories, you can lose a pound with any combination of cutting or burning those calories, obviously both are better than none. Don't let anyone bully you into losing weight you can only do it if YOU want to. I love Walk Away the Pounds, it's easy, and you do not need to be coordinated (for which I am very thankful), they come in multiple lenghts, and the 1 mile is only 15 minutes long. You can even do it a couple of times a day and never get bored. Not to mention you can do it at your leasure, no gyms :) One day at a time, GOOD LUCK!!!!

Hey, okay, there is not a specific exercise you should start with.
BUT, it should be one that you enjoy. Do you like walks? Walks with friends? Jogging? Swimming? Do you have a favorite sport? Soccer, basketball, volleyball, etc... All of these things will get you moving, which is the most important thing. You could even get a video to follow if you like that too.
*It is essential that you enjoy what you're doing, or else you may not be consistent with it, and you won't have as good of results.
Don't forget: your diet matters too. Make sure you are not consuming too many extra calories. I cannot give you an exact number bc I dont know your weight, height, or gender, but 1600 to 2000 is good for a woman, and 2000-2500 is good for a mant o start off with losing weight. Make sure you eat lean proteins, GOOD fats (omega-3's, mono & polyunsaturated fat), complex carbs (think whole grain, whole wheat), and get enough fiber (25 for women, 38 for men), and drink lots of water or calorie-free liquid to stay hydrated.

You should really consult with your doctor about starting any exercise program, that way they can evaluate and put you on a program that will not put too much stress on your ankles and your back. I would suggest light walking. Take your Ipod, walkman, etc. and take a short walk. You start with short distances then keep adding more. I bet as your body gets used to it you will not get winded as quickly and eventually you will not get winded at all. You will lose weight and it is good for your heart. Hope this helps.

Swimming, none impact, or just walking around the pool, water up to your waist.
Steps. Use a small stool, to step up and down.
Use a phone book, best if you have 2, one in each hand, lift up and down, one hand up other down, keeping balanced, helps put less pressure on your back.
Sit ups, but lay flat, knees bend, lift your head only 6 inches off the floor, don't need to go all the way
Since your knees are bent, lift them off the floor just a few inches at a time.
Simple rule, slow and easy at first, then progress as you become stronger.
As you become occupied you will focus less on food and more on your activity. Hobbies are great for this.

The best exercise available for losing weight is any cardiovascular workout such as jogging, sprinting, or sports where you move around a lot such as racquetball, basketball, tennis, etc. Although, at your weight I'd recommend just starting out taking long walks (a mile or two). Doing this won't burn off near as much fat to start out with, but it will help strengthen your lungs and get you ready to start jogging and exercising more intensely.

I suggest Water Arobeics..call around see where you can do this, it will help you feel so much better....I know you would like to try something at home or outside. If you want to stay home just walk...Start taking a walk even if it is 5 minutes...then try for 7 or 10 minutes....whatever, as long as your attempting is better than nothing...or something like when you go somewhere park a little farther to walk. or when you are shopping, make a few extra rounds in store..

Start by taking extra steps around the house. The goal should be 10,000 steps per day. This is WAY too many to start. Invest in a pedometer. Measure how many steps you take in an average day. The next day, try to add 50 - 100 steps more. Keep going...increase your walking everyday. Bonne Chance!

Start with walking, then a fast walk or a slow jog. You could also ride a bike. Just as long as you are moving and doing something rather than sitting and thinking about it. Good Luck!
