Please don't monkey around with herbal pseudo-meds for this disorder which will most definitely shorten your life, if you do not get it under control.
First, get to a competent physician. Before just throwing meds at it, insist they check your adrenal glands (either the adrenal cortex or the adrenal medulla can form tumors that can raise it), and have them do studies on your renal arteries. If both those tests are negative, they will get you on meds to regulate it.
If it runs in your family, it may very well be "essential" hypertension, and the only thing for it is the standard medications.
You should also look into getting yourself physically fit through exercise and diet, as well as yoga, meditation or other relaxation techniques. If you are in a stressful relationship, job or situation, get that resolved ASAP.
Please, please, don't ignore this. Last month, we buried my 49 year old neighbor who ignored his hypertension.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

i just went through this. My doctor prescribed. A clove of garlic (raw) or a bulb cooked a day and bananas. This worked in a matter of 7 days, it lowered my blood pressure by 12 points systolic and the bottom number went down about 20. From 168/110 to 156/81

Quaker Oats (oatmeal) help. So do fresh or frozen fruits & veggies.
Cut back on salty food.
You can consider adding a lot of garlic when you cook. This helps stabilize/normalize blood pressure.

Definitely garlic and onions! You can buy the chopped garlic in olive oil in the produce section at the supermarket. I also cook/eat with alot of chili powder in spaghetti, soups, etc. Any food that is spicy and "revs" the digestion is suppose to lower your blood pressure...good luck!
