Flea treatment is safe and very effective with eliminating fleas not only from the animal, but also from the environment. A dose of advantage or frontline plus should eliminate all fleas in 3 days (kills all of them on the animal within 48 hrs), definitely within 2 weeks if it's a really bad case of fleas existing in the house. Cats and dogs are really the primary hosts to fleas, which is why simply applying the medication to the animal is sufficient. They are only biting you because the population of fleas is so large. You can get both of these medications online with out a prescription as well as some pet stores. If your friend claims to be using one, suggest trying the other. Sometimes fleas can build up a resistance to one drug.

You should report her to the local spca. Leaving something like that untreated can cause so much harm to the cat. Eventually it will become anemic and die. Besides, why would you want to hang out with someone that doesn't respect themselves and their animals enough to keep things clean. No one should want to live in those conditions. Having a flea infestation is absolutely disgusting and hard to get rid of, but it's possible. And lets face it, if she's too broke to properly care for the cat, then she shouldn't have it in the first place!

tell her she has to take the cat to the groomers to get flea dipped, but while the cat is gone.
1. put all food open food in sealed containers

2. flea bomb the house 1bomb per 25-30 sqft

3. wash all clothing at laundry mat

4. wait 2-3 hrs before returning home open windows for fresh air

5. leave cat in car while vaccuming the house

6. dispose of vaccume bag or canister outside

7. repeat 1-6 every 15 days for 1 month( flea eggs hatch every 15 days.

8 do'nt forget the flea collor

She has a responsibility to treat her cat. Her house is probably infested and the fleas have laid eggs in the carpet and soft furnishings, UGH. I wouldn't go there until she's got it sorted. Fleas can spread diseases and she sounds irresponsible, remember they are feasting on the cat's blood then coming and biting you - has the cat been wormed also?

Buy it some flea treatment, it is so quick and effective, just a little squirt at the back of the neck. It'll stop the poor cat suffering too!

Buy the cat a flea collar and tell your flea ridden friend to put it on the cat or you cannot visit anymore

If she hasn't got spots on her skin, you may be allergic to fleas. I would consult a pharmasist for some anti-histimine for insect bites. Suggest to her a good brand of flea shampoo or treat your friend to a flea collar - and some heartfelt advice on treating her cat well.

She doesn't have to get rid of the cat, she has to get rid of the fleas. Give her cat something for the fleas.

If she refuses to deal with the flea problem, yep, you'll have to stop going to her house. But tell her why first.
