No single decongestant works best but I prefer pseudoephedrine (although available without a prescription it is keep behind the pharmacy counter as it is somehow used to manufacture methamphetamines) at a dose (for someone over 120 pounds) of 60 mg (the dose on the package reads 30 to 60) 4 times daily. If you have a 'runny nose' you may wish to add an anti histamine such as over the counter loratadine at a dose of 10 to 20 mg (the latter is more than on the package) daily. Although these should work I much prefer prescription corticosteroid nasal sprays as these work better than both of the above combined and they are not absorbed into the system so they do not cause side effects. In saying this I must add that you should not use over the counter decongestant nasal sprays as these cause more problems than they help. I hope that you get to feeling better.

I know a nasal spray named Beconase Acqua, and a pills named Leprofen-D and loratadine both contains phseudorine and that really works for a decongestant.

tablets are best as sprays can cause a dependancy for them.
short term use of a nasal spray that is used as directed is the best but if longer term need is there then go for the tablets.
if you dont respond to any of them and this has gone on for more then 10 days without chest breathing problems then see the doc if chest feels tight or it is difficult to breath with your mouth open , you dont feel you can get enough air in or out then see the doc asap.
dont get hooked on dristain many people do .

The fastest relief though not good for long term relief is Afrin Spray. Afrin over a long term cause many issues. The least problematic though would probably be Mucinex.

Advil Cold and Sinus. It's over the counter but you have to sign for it. It's the only OTC that works for me.
