From observation, the number of bubbles in a bathtub decreases with time ( as time t->inifinity, -> "approaches).

So, let B represent a function for the number of bubbles in a bathtub at time t:

B(t) = B0 * e^(-(t/T))

Where:
e = 2.718 (you should already know this, but...)

B0 = read as "B zero, initial amount (value) of bubbles in the bathtub, assuming that you chose the initial value after you stop running the bath water

-(t/T) = the t in the numerator represents your time. As t grows larger, -(t/T) becomes smaller, that is, the number of bubbles in the bathtub decreases exponentially (that is why we must include the negative and the e).

T = time constant, dictates how fast the function goes to zero or inifinity.

Example 1:

Determine the amount of bubbles in the bathtub at t = 6 minutes, if the initial amount of bubbles in the tub is 1 x 10^(6) (1 million bubbles) and the time constant is 2 minutes.

Our equation is: B(t) = B0 * e^(-(t/T))

Step 1-> Assign values to variables

B0 = 1 x 10^(6)

t = 6

T = 2

*the value of e is known.

Step 2-> Plug in the values to obtain the result

B(6) = (1 x 10^(6)) * 2.718^(-(6/2))

B = 49 802.5572 bubbles

At approximately t = 30 minutes, there are virtually no bubbles in the tub.

*this only serves as a model
