capable of complex abstract thought would that mean they had a soul?
Would that mean they needed salvation?
Would Jesus need to come back as a Dolphin, be harpooned by Japanese Fishermen and rise or in this case float from the dead as payment for the Sins of Dolphin kind?

Dolphins DO have an animating principal, and so do have souls. Are they immortal? Unknown. But you could probably ask them and THEY would know. But since dolphins have never been known to sin, they may not NEED Salvation. So Jesus wouldn't need to do any such silly thing.

The dolphin is a superior animal. I would not be shocked at all to realize they had a 'soul'. But then other animals might as well.

I wonder if those who swim with dolphins and find them such docile, intelligent creatures realise that they regularly kill porpoises just for the hell of it. They're capable of intense savagery-if you want to judge them by human standards which most people seemingly do.

As animals as far more intelligent than we give them credit for, I'm inclined to believe they would scoff at the idea of "religion".
