doesn't treat herself very welll emotionally and is a born again Christian. I would like to be able to show her some Bible verses
that show that that is part of being a good Christian also. She knows that her body is a temple and treats it that way, but she doesn't take care of her emotional self very well. I told her that God wants her to love herself but she was doubtful. She would only believe it if I can show her from the Bible.
Thank you very much.

Leviticus 19:18b you shall love your neighbor as yourself, I am the Lord"

Philippians 4:4-9 Rejoice in the Lord always;again I will say rejoice! Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things. The things you have learned and received and heard and seen in me, practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you."

I am glad that you are looking after your Mom, as a Mom I say THANKS for caring enough to seek help. Keep praying for and with your Mom. Read and study the bible together, it holds the Words of Truth from Gods mouth to your heart.

Cast your cares on Him for He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

My father has this exact same problem.

While I do not know any specific scriptures off the top of my head that tell us to emotionally love ourselves, I do know that we were created in God's image which makes every single one of us important and something special in the eyes of God. Why else would Jesus have died for our sins? Therefore, if we are created in God's image and we are something special, we should all try to take care of ourselves as best we can; emotionally, physically and mentally.

"Love thy neighbor as thyself." If your mom isn't loving herself emotionally, how can she act out this quote from the Bible?

Best wishes. :)

Jesus was asked what the greatest commandment was. He replied, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, and mind. And the second is like to it: you shall love everyone else as much as you love yourself."

The implication of this is that if you don't think well of yourself, you're not going to think well of others either.

The apostle Paul says we are to prefer one another over ourselves. This is not the contradiction it seems to be. We should think well of (love) ourselves, but because we love others as much, we are to be servants to each other, helping those in need and showing God's love to all, remembering the greatest commandment to love Him most.

Yes, several places. In James 2:8 for instance it says to love your neighbor as yourself-indicating that we should love ourselves, and share that love by loving our neighbor with the same level as we love ourselves..

8 If you really keep the royal law found in Scripture, "Love your neighbor as yourself," you are doing right.
James 2:8 (NIV)

If you are referring to the need for your mom to seek outside help, doing so is a sign of humility (Proverbs 18:12)- a valuable quality.
The Bible says: “Two are better than one, . . . for if one of them should fall, the other one can raise his partner up. But how will it be with just the one who falls when there is not another to raise him up?” (Ecclesiastes 4:9, 10) In many cases, a sympathetic listener can help us get our thinking straightened out.
As for "loving ourselves", Eph. 5:28, 29 touches on it when it instructs husbands to love their wives as their own bodies. "He who loves his wife loves himself, for no man ever hated his own flesh, but he feeds and cherishes it". Not that we become self-centered, as your mom may be thinking, but that humans normally "cherish" our bodies in that we take care of it- both physically and emotionally.

Jesus said "Love your neighbor as yourself."

A lot of people forget that last part. You have to love yourself also! You must love yourself to love your neighbor. It is commanded by the LORD!

If you cannot allow God's forgiveness to wash your sins away and clear your soul of troubles then you have not truly offered your sins to God for forgiveness. You must forgive yourself enough to ask in truth for forgiveness from others.

tell her emotional abuse or neglect always effects the body. Tell her God made her in his image. (genesis) To know God is to know love, for God is love. (1 john) So since we were made in the spirit of love it would only make sense to Love, not only others but ourselves. Jesus said Love thy neighbors as you love thyself. Hence expressing the act of loving others and loving yourself.

Love thy Neighbor as You love Thyself.

If she believes we must do good to others, then she needs to place herself as an equal to all, as it should be. :)

We are told to "love our neighbor as ourselves." If we are to love our neighbors, in turn we should also love ourselves!
