I find it interesting that people that follow Islam have these
traditions. Why is it we do not as a culture have these?
I often wonder why Jerusalem is not a pilgrimage place
or why not for instance Bethlehem or Galilee? Jews do
you find compelled to travel to the Holy Land or Israel?

Only serious answers to this please.

Well why not ask your self that? It is not my place to tell you why you don't have that in your religion. It's the way Islam is and what we do has a purpose.

Praying 5 times - one of the pillars of Islam to thank Allah for his many blessings upon us and to give to Him a small fraction compared to what He gives to us.

Pilgrimage - also one of the pillars of Islam to also pray to Allah to rid us of our sins and those entering Mecca and going out and washed of their sins are like new born babies. Also, the Ka'aba was built by the Prophet Abraham (pbuh) and later by Mohammad. Also there is the resting place of Mohammad (pbuh).

I'm happy to explain but I don't know why your culture is not like this. This is the way Islam is. These are the teachings of Islam. Jerusalem is obviously not a pilgramage place (meaning people don't go their often) because there is no stability in the area. If it was open, the three religions would go there and it would make us more united in a sense. It is first and foremost a mosque for Mulsims but the Jews have taken it and won't let Muslim enter but I don't want to bother you with the politics. I'm sure you know that side of the story.

Hope I've helped. Glad you're fascinated by this or so I hope

.i'd like to know why he/she thinks that given that (1) Jeruslaem was a Jewish city 1500 years before Islam existed, when it was founded by King David and (b) it was the site of two Jewish Temples before Islam existed............ and finally that it is not closed off to anyone as the Temple Mount - site of the Dome of the Rock and al-aqsa mosque is actually administrated by the WAQF, a Muslim institution...........

It doesn't matter whether it was or still is a Jewish nation, the Al-Aqsa is a muslim mosque and nothing will change that. That's the one I'm talking about. It was built Muslims and wasn't Jewish converted into Muslim. I'm saying that the Jews won't allow Muslims to even go pray inside. I didn't know that about the WAQF. Thanks for the insight.

Every religion has unique practices and teachings, Muslims pray 5 times a day as that is what they believe is the way to serve G-d.

as for the poster who thinks that Jeruslaem was primarily a Muslim mosque (FooFoo), i'd like to know why he/she thinks that given that (1) Jeruslaem was a Jewish city 1500 years before Islam existed, when it was founded by King David and (b) it was the site of two Jewish Temples before Islam existed............ and finally that it is not closed off to anyone as the Temple Mount - site of the Dome of the Rock and al-aqsa mosque is actually administrated by the WAQF, a Muslim institution...........

Every religion has its own rituals to see that the person is not digressed and attracted to more alluring and tempting aspects of life. In so doing they prescribe so many rules and regulations, the main intention being to keep the mind centered in GOD.-No one can say what is right or wrong--they are all radiii which lead to the centre--
I feel that if one can visualise the God he likes, at his own place and not forget him later, it is much more than any piligrimage that is undertaken----Constant remembrance of the IMMATERIAL ABSOLUTE is what can guide us in life---be it any faith in this universe

Mr.Foofoo answer is very good; it is the best answer actually.
Just I want to add something, before you pray, you should know GOD, you should feel that he is with you always, yes we Muslims pray 5 times a day, but we are not forgetting him a second, before we do anything we are starting it by the name of God, before eating, after eating, before sleep, after sleep, when we go out, when we come home, what ever we do, we feel he is always there, watching us.
