My Sunday school teacher, Mr. Hooper, says Paul and Peter encouraged slaves to be obedient in Ephesians 6:5-7 and I Peter 2:18. He said that even though people decided that slavery is wrong, it matters more what the bible thinks about things and the bible says that slaves shouldn't revolt and stuff and that slavery is okay.

They encouraged harmony among the people. They thought the end of the world was very close and soon it wouldn't matter who you were. They encouraged people to accept their lives and live them well rather than revolt and cause discord.
Freed slaves were not bad people. They are set free and would be allowed to live that way. The whole slavehood issue is not the one we are familiar with today. (or in recent years) You might try doing some research on the topic.

Yes but Peter and Paul also admonished the slave owners to trat their slaves justly. They were given food and housing in return for an honset days work if they were following the teachings of the apostles. What took place in the south was a bastardization of that teaching and an abomination before God.

if one looks at the slavery issue in a different way we are all slaves. we are all slaves to the society which we live in. no one is totally free to do whatever they want as we all need to respect the free will and rights of others as well as obey the laws rules and mores of the culture, society and nation in which one resides.

those who in early times who owned slaves and mistreated them were cruel and inhuman, but there were also those who treated their slaves very well indeed and many slaves were indeed given their freedom and chose to stay with their master, lots of slaves needed to have a master because of dire times of poverty and would have died of starvation, so there was good and bad sides to slavery, remember that Jesus said we will always have the poor with us, but that it is wrong to exploit them.
