Took several pieces of jewellery to a shop to be valued and they want £37 for the first piece and £15 for all others. When I questioned the price I was asked is it for Insurance purposes? Is this a bit of a rip off do you think? Should I be going to a high street store instead such as Samuels? If I wanted to sell the pieces would it be cheaper?

Never paid for a valuation yet in the UK. If you want a valuation for insurance purposes there will be a charge, but if you say you are thinking of selling them they won't charge and you can double that value for insurance.

Yes they would still give you a fair valuation.. I got a ring valued once and they did it for free! the ring was worth a grand so it is not as if it was cheap jewellery

You should go to the place where they were purchased, they should re-appraise them for free.
