get an acoustic.

You can start on an acoustic. We sell lots and lots of the beginner guitar kits from Fender and Epiphone at the music store I work at. They come with a small amp, the guitar, strap, picks, guitar bag, and instructional DVD.

You can find good deals at pawn shops, just beware of cheap guitars that will never play in tune or cracked or warped bridges.

dont get those starter packs that come with a guitar and and an amp. that is not worth much. get an accoustic first and learn that well. it will make electric a piece of cake. while you are learning you have more time to save up and get a better guitar than you would have if you bought one now.

A lot of people swear by Fender Squire.

The computer would be a good place to plug it.

Headphone amps are best for learning. You don't annoy people and you can get lots of sounds. Things like the Rockman, which you can find used on Ebay.

If you have enough to buy a guitar at a shop, then take your money to a pawn shop and get both a guitar and an amp. Take someone with you that knows what to buy!

i would not blow your whole wad on a new guitar. I would likely get a starter kit. you can find them on sites like www.musiciansfriend.com
you can get a kit that includes a small amp and guitar for 100-150.
that would be appropriate for you to start with.
you can use a computer or your music system to play.
