it seems that the dust is on the mirror not the sensor because the spots are not visible in my pictures. i tried to clean it with a cloth but i think i made it worse. is there anything else like a brush or something?

Here's my best advice: don't clean it !!!
You can see the dust in the viewfinder. So what ? It doesn't show on the pictures. Sure, it's annoying to know there's dust on your brand new 400D, but the mirror is the most fragile part in any SLR. Your brand new 400D with dust in it could soon become an useless, very expensive, piece of plastic with some chips in it.

If you insist on cleaning it, use a blower bulb. If it doesn't work, apply the same careful methods that are described for sensor cleaning. It seems to me, the most sensible one is described here:

Then again: the best thing to do is to leave it as it is !!!

I completely agree with Frank M's response. I have attempted to clean my SLR mirrors before, and it usually ended up in disaster. The mirrors are coated with some odd coating which makes even the softest clothes stick and leave fuzzies. Also the inside of the mirror box is often coated with a black felt type cloth, which will also adhere to the fuzzies of a cleaning cloth.

It's also really easy to scratch the mirror which is far worse than dust.

I have also tried compressed air, which works ok, but sometimes, especially if you don't hold the can upright you get some mist coming out which can make things worse again.

These days, for my sensor and mirror cleaning I use a good powerful air blower. It works great. I posted the link below, although any other large quality blower should do fine...

For a fee, the Canon service center will be happy to clean it for you and will sure get the job done right. Try your local Camera shop too (NOT big box retailer) and see if they offer cleaning service.
