Allah isn't exactly like how christians say "he walks with me and he talks with me" but the Qur'an tells us Allah is closer than our jugular vein, and knows all that is in our hearts and minds, so in that sense Allah is indeed "in our house" as a far fetched manner of speaking. And yes, muslims face mecca to pray, as a sign of unity among all muslims, and respect for the kaba, which is a stone thrown from heaven from the altar the angels pray at.

Kaba is just a Direction. God is in our heart.God don't accept prayer if ya have other things or ya think about other things instead of God during ya prayers. We face towards Kabba not because God is there, we face towards Kabba for unity, for disciplan, for universal brotherhood not because God is there , Just because its the Order of God. Muslim is the person whos submitts his will to God. Just as Jesus says in John not his will but the will be done. i. e Muslim. Jesus was Muslim.
Peace!

If God were to be at my home when I pray , I would ask Him the favour of joining me in the prayer for Universal Peace , not as a gift, but as something that is to emerge. My request would result in His focusing on that aspect and Help bring it about. At that time I would request Him to face me from the Mecca Angle, and I would adhere to the routine of facing Mecca.

Yup God is Omnipresent so He's everywhere for us. He even says he's as close to us as our jugular vein (basically within our souls). :)
But if you're thinking of some kind of finite being then I'd say sure I'd still face East.

Hmmm, quite thought provoking question.
When God is Omnipresent, should you face the Ka'aba?
Truly profound!?
Wonder why people can't appreciate such a good question, though?
Merry Christmas.
