I have been asking Muslims which translation of the Quran into English is the most true to the original. No one is helping me.
Can someone please reccomend the best translation of the Quran into English? I expect a book with some extra information on the meaning of some Arabic words might also be helpful to me.

Frankly, I don't like Yusuf Ali's translation because I have found numerous errors in the English translation. I sorta like Mir Ahmed Ali's translation because it's present-day english, but the commentary is geared towards the Shi'a sect and I don't follow that exclusively.
So.... you could use either one and then find the this book at B&N booksellers:
Dr. Abdullah Nadwi is the author of "The Translation of the Holy Quran" or something like that. It has the translations of the Arabic words in the Quran and is very helpful.

The Noble Qur'an
Beware of Yusuf Ali's translation, there is a lot of mis translations in it. And especially stay away from his commentary.
The Scholars tell you to look out for Yusuf Ali, and I listen to the scholars on matters that I do not understand. May Allah help you in your quest.

Many people regard Yusuf Ali as the best translator, but I think its best if you read all three together and see the difference.
I don't know of any books, sorry.
