Because they're insecure.

Because people are taught to believe in their religions to the death, with great fervor and unshakable faith...and, of course, all religion is simply an opinion with no physical proof any of it is real at all.

So, when one's faith or beleif is questioned, people automatically go on either the 'offensive' or 'defensive' posture - tearing down other's beleifs to promote their own.

It's sad, really...but especially so since the overwhelming majority of religious dogma is based upon a 'be good to others' foundation. There's not much 'love your brother' going on here.

But, it's an honest representation of the current state of religion. It feels like religious allegiance is akin to sports teams. If you wear the jersey of your favorite team, you're still a fan no matter what - through thick and thin...even when the current coach is bad or when there's scandal afoot.

Oh well.

Until a religion can be scientifically proven beyond any doubt as being the absolute truth, this negativity will continue.

It's always been this way, and as long as there is religion (or at least as long as it remains immensely profitable and powerful) this is what will inevitably happen.

1. Sometimes when people are afraid or do not understand something they act out in crude jokes or anger. It is a sign of their insecurities.

2. While one person may be quiet in the real world they feel different online. They write things that they would normally not say because no one can confront them in an online world.

3. Some people think that by being offensive they may change your mind about certian religious beliefs or they are so passionate about their viewpoint they don't realize they are being offensive.

it is always offensive to be confronted on things that we are doing. If we as humans' chose to live a certain way, and someone else says it is not right we always become offensive. And from what I know of religion it always question's our thoughts, life, and the way we live it..

Thats what I would like to know. I would like to come on here for once and not see so much pure ignorance. I want to help people to learn about Islam, in my case, but I know a whole lot about other religions as well, I studied and compared and still do it today, I do not have blind faith. I really can honestly say I get appalled and disgusted with how intolerant folks are. I do not go around attacking their beliefs. I will give logical answers and ask logical questions. Especially when I seem to know more about the religion they follow than they do. I for once would like to come here and not see so much hate. Anyhow thats how I feel. I think it is ignorance and intolerance.

It seems to me that most people are either being too offensive OR too defensive. Half the questions are attacks and the other half are too often percieved that way.

Religion has a way of doing that as we often feel very strongly about our chosen method of worship.

As long as Christianity, as well as several of the other "ultimate truths", have as their end and gleefully sought after goal, the END OF THE WORLD, and as long as they believe that their rights are being violated if they are denied the opportunity to use the coercive power of the state to shove their god down every ones throat, you will have to put up with us being in your face. Why should we abandon a forum where we can let you know that you will not be allowed to carry out the silly "End Times" rubbish that you seem to forget would include the rest of us.

When you translate most of the answers here to your question I see you get the typical "Its all the idiots who disagree with me that are offensive". Many people consider anything that disagrees with them to be offensive.

Those people are not so religious to accept questions which are not really for religion.

Well, you have to understand that at least half of the folks here are hostile to the concept of religion and are here for the explicit purpose of tearing down other peoples' beliefs. (And, if THAT isn't the very definition of bigotry...I don't know what is.)

I usually just poke fun of the haters and save my serious answers for those who seem to have legitimate questions.

I have noticed people often are SO rude to others about religion. Why cant we just treat people as we want to be treated?
