If you buy a car "as is" you are responsible for any and all repairs that need to be made!
The dealer may be able to help you find a good mechanic, and may even be able to arrange for a shop to do the work at a discounted rate, but if you buy as is, there is no obligation to do so.
Did you have the car checked out by your mechanic prior to purchase?
"AS-IS" means what it says. You buy the vehicle in the condition it is in, with no warranty expressed or implied!! The dealer is not liable for any repairs!!

If you bought it "as is" then the dealer is not liable for anything unless you can prove outright fraud such as odometer rollback, washed title, etc. Even so, those types of things would likely have been revealed with a CarFax report.
If it's just mechanical faults, the dealer is not liable for anything at all. You should have had the vehicle inspected prior to purchasing it.

If you bought it in "as is" condition, I don't think the dealer is responsible for anything. That's why they sell them as is, if anything goes wrong with it as soon as it's off the lot, they owe you nothing. Of course, a reputable dealer would try to resolve your problem.

If you ask the dealer to help you out they might just for the goodwill. They have no obligation to fix anything.

I agree with girliegirl. It wouldn't hurt to contact the dealer and see if they're willing to help. I doubt it, but it's worth a try.
