Why are we arguing over this? There is no issue. The people in America who are here illegally are that--illegal. Why do they have the same rights that Americans do when they didn't apply for citizenship the legal way? If they are going to be proud Americans, shouldn't they respect the law first before they demand American rights? Could someone explain why there is an issue (I understand that people are debating over guest-worker program, path to citizenship, walls, etc.)

why do people think the -illegal- immigrants have American rights?

I agree with you and I've said the same thing before.. if they are illegal they are illegal.. this shouldn't even be an issue..We have laws and people need to obey our laws... if someone robbed a bank should we let them off and find them NG because they only did it to support their family- NO.. without laws we have Anarchy...If they are illegal there should be no issue.. they need to go back home and do what millions of other immigrants have done and that is do what they have to do to come here legally...

They have exactly such rights as the US Constitution, the laws of the United States, and international law -- mainly codified in consular conventions with other countries and the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations -- give them. No more, no less.

And you would want the same rights if you were in another country, legally or illegally. Particulary if you went to that country under circumstances you thought were "legal" that turned out to be "illegal".

An example: they guy who got confused and went over the bridge into Mexico, and he had a gun in the car. A SERIOUS FELONY in Mexico, a 2nd Amenment Right in the USA. Should he have the right to defend himself?

How about the illegal immigrant who murders someone (or is accusd of doing so; maybe he did and maybe he didn't) and is arrested. Should he have the right to consult with his country's consul? US treaties say he has that right. The US Supreme Court said he could be executed anyway, even though he wasn't told of that right. (The International Court of Justice ordered a stay of excution but the US ignored it. Tough luck.)

Actually the real issue is how this affects AMERICANS. Not just how other countries might retaliate, or terrorists focus on the USA. But by saying illegals can't have driving licenses (and their home licenses are void after a certain number of months) it means they are driving UNINSURED and if they hit you nobody is going to pay you for your injuries (unless you have uninsured motorist coverage, which you had better buy today): http://snurl.com/uninsuredalien

Your law of UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES at work. Don't get too huffy about ILLEGALS.

But what do I care. I live in Switzerland, where everybody has an ID card and no employer would dare to hire an illegal. And there aren't any alien homeless people. And the cops can stop you on the street and ask for your ID.

Not only deport them but document their deportation so they can never become legal! It's time to enforce the law! Its time to get tougher with the laws!
The day they marched the streets cops should have been there arresting everyone! The aiding and abettors! The illegals!

contrary to some people's believes this is not a democrat or a republican issue! This issue doesn't belong to just one party.
Bush himself is an illegal support! So please some people need to get their facts straight!

The correct term is ILLEGAL ALIEN as specified in the U.S. Code that is the law of the land.
Technically, the U.S. has an INVASION by foreign powers and should be treating it as such. There are even incidents of foreign flags being defiantly flown on U.S. soil.
The MUSH-HEADED people are allowing this to happen,
Big Business has sold out the U.S. for profits, Washington has sold out the U.S. for ANY kind of vote.
Nero fiddled while Rome burned. The Shrub is doing the same thing.
We are in the " Bread and Circuses " days that saw the end of the Roman Empire and history may repeat itself....

They know in their hearts they don't, but they'll do anything, rely on anything to make themselves appear right. There was never a question before that mexico lost the mexican/American war in 1846, when they had to cede California, and New Mexico, until now, by them, so they can act like American Indian's, who say we, Americans stole their land. It is absolutely false, as history shows, we whooped them, fair and square, just like we did to the Indians, in the Indian wars. What they say is merely rhetortic to appease themselves, bring up falsity, and questions in the media, for those who don't read and know history. They'll do anything to get into America free of charge, whether it be wrong. These folks don't love US, but hate US. When will folks get a dag gum clue????

Thank You!!!!!! I have no problem with foreigners coming to our country, but do it legally and be proud to be an American. I am sick of everything in my country being in English and Spanish. I don't see English on things in Mexico. There was a day when foreigners came here and couldn't wait to learn English and be an American. We need to be very loud on how we feel about people coming here demanding rights that they have NOT earned.

First of all the US Constitution does not discriminate. Secondly illegals don't have many rights that we have, voting, holding public office etc.

Bottom line illegals seem too demanding along with supporters of illegal immigration.
