They worship her because they do not hold to the Commandments of God!
There is one of the Commandments that states have no other "gods" before me.
There is another that states make no graven images!
They believe that "mary" is a co-redemtrix along with Jesus. Again this goes contrary to the Word of God.
They even believe that "mary" carries the nail marks of the cross in her hands, as does Jesus as if she herself was hung on that cross. Can't find that in the Word of God either.
Yes Mary was the mother of Christ, yes she is called blessed for that reason.
But the Bible only teaches that God the Father and His Son are to be worshiped and no one else.
That church has many "pagan" teachings and always has. They also claim that they do not worship her or the other "saints" however this is false also. For worship also involves praying and hold one on a position of reverence.
They do not even understand the word "worship" if they did they would see that there is more to it then what they have been led to believe.
One last point, the Bible teaches that when we are dead, we know nothing, we have no more thought, no more memory, we can offer no more praise. It also states that when we die we return to the ground and the breath of life returns to where it came form, which is God. For it takes our body and the Breath of life from God to make us a "living Soul" check out Gen for that one.
If the Bible is true and I believe that it is, then how ca we speak with the dead? How can the dead pray to the Father for us?
Christ plainly stated that NO ONE comes unto the father except by Him. So this will leave "mary" and all their saints out of that aspect once and for all.

Everyone is entitled to their beliefs. It would do you good to look at what the prayer is. (It is taken straight from the bible--the same one that you read) The beginning is from Mary's visit to Elizabeth just before the baby's birth. (when Elizabeth is carrying John the Baptist) They feel she was blessed among women and chosen by God. (from the bible)
It is understood that some pray these prayers and some do not believe in doing so. Not everyone has loads of pictures or even one picture for that matter. But for those who do...who cares. You do what you want and let them do what they believe.
great point made by the person above. So many Christian groups take their beliefs from Paul's letters. If you study them, they are in conflict with much of Jesus' teaching and way of life. No one is complaining about that. Many who judge and condemn Catholics are basing their facts on what they have been told, have heard or overheard, try learning about it from learned people who know the faith. You get a better understanding.

Mary freely and actively cooperated in a unique way with God’s plan of salvation (Luke 1:38; Gal. 4:4). Like any mother, she was never separated from the suffering of her Son (Luke 2:35), and Scripture promises that those who share in the sufferings of Christ will share in his glory (Rom. 8:17). Since she suffered a unique interior martyrdom, it is appropriate that Jesus would honor her with a unique glory.
All Christians believe that one day we will all be raised in a glorious form and then caught up and rendered immaculate to be with Jesus forever (1 Thess. 4:17; Rev. 21:27). As the first person to say "yes" to the good news of Jesus (Luke 1:38), Mary is in a sense the prototypical Christian, and received early the blessings we will all one day be given.

If Mary is "just Jesus' mother", then Jesus is "just" the Son of God.
If you do not call Mary "Blessed" in your church, bible studies and general language, then you are not following the Bible as you might claim.
"Mary worship" is an anti-Catholic invention, and is insulting. Catholics venerate her because God venerated her first through the words of the Angel Gabriel, who carried God's words to her. Veneration is not worship.
To see the Son without the Virgin Mother, the Seed without the Woman, the King without the Queen-Mother, the New Adam without the New Eve is to do violence both to Scripture and to all of Christian history. For the Christian who enters the mind of the New Testament Church, the idea of "Jesus alone" without Mary is as unthinkable as the idea of the New Testament alone without the Old or the divinity of Jesus without the Humanity.

According to the Bible, which is the only accurate source of info needed, Jesus is a Christians only way to God. If others are "worshipped', such as Mary, or the so called saints, they have been mislead.
As for Martin saying, that Mary never slept with Joseph, read the source of the real truth...the Bible. Mary and Joseph had other children, and Jesus was the only one conceived immaculatley.
to quote you, Martin, ..."How could you believe something so ridiculous???? "
We need to check on the truth of matter, before giving a ridiculous answer!

Mary was a chosen vessel used by God for his divine purpose. She is special in the way that she was chosen. But because we must not worship anyone else but the one true God, we can thank and praise God for Mary anytime we want to but we can not worship Mary. She had to be baptized and cleansed of sin just like everyone else, and she had to receive the Holy Spirit.

I've also noticed this.Growing up Catholic,it never dawned on me till I started learning about other religions. Why are we praying to Jesus and Mary all the time???We should be praying to God,the almighty creator. And ever notice Christians are always against idol worship, but we've got images of Jesus on a cross everywhere?Hmmmm.

That is true. She was a good woman but she was still sinner as any other human being. The only person who is sinless is Jesus Christ. We should not worship Marry or ask her to forgive our sins because she can't, only God can.

I image it stems from the fact that she is probably the only female figure in Christianity that wasn't viewed poorly so it give a lot of people a feminine figurehead. The only other feminine figure from Christianity that gets respect would be Saint Brigit, at least she is still important in Great Brittan, and Mother Teresa.

I've also noticed this in the Catholic Church...I don't know why they worship her she was only the vessel God used to birth Jesus in the flesh. I think the focus is wrong Mary was just the vessel not the savior, I think it is more important to focus on the savior not the vessel that carried him.
