This works, especially when you make your own coffee. Start by making your coffee with equal parts caffeinated and decaffeinated coffee. You'll hardly notice any taste change. Every few days, reduce the proportion of caffeinated coffee and add more decaffeinated coffee as your tastes permit. Within a month or so, you'll be drinking decaff without any problems or caffeine withdrawal symptoms. This strategy works for weaning yourself off of colas, as well as sugar or salt. In restaurants, it's a little more tricky. One approach is to ask for a half cup of caffeinated coffee and when they come around with the refills take decaff.

I drank tea. You can find some tea with caffeine, and use that to replace the coffee. Once you've began drinking more tea, you can slowly begin mixing in the decaf. One note - more than the headaches (I didn't have any) one thing you may need to look out for is fatigue. Depending on how much coffee you're used to drinking, your body may be depending on some of that caffeine for your daily energy, and a sudden decrease might mean a sudden sharp decrease in your energy level.

Whatever method you use to ween yourself off of the coffee, I would suggest that you incorporate some type of non-caffeine energy food/suppliment for fatigue.

How much coffee are you drinking? I would slowly decrease the amount you drink. My husband was drinking a few pots of coffee a day and then he went down to one pot, and then it was 4 cups, and then 3 cups, etc. If you go cold turkey you will probably have caffeine withdrawl and headaches.

I did, switched to half decaf...then decaf. But needless to say, my taste for coffee has diminished. Are you drinking that much that you feel you will have side effects? Take it easy then and stay off the soda with caffeine, too, it will be easier that way.

Make your coffee weaker and weaker and eventually just hot water. Now that worked for me, now I drink de-caf and some of my friends said they just started drinking de-caf and took asprins for the headaches but I tried to avoid that. Hey Good Luck you can do what you set your mind out to do!
