That's the advantage of teachings that are at times so vague or that take so many different directions as to be nonsense. Of course that's why there are so many different sects of even the same religion. The Catholics,Lutherans,Methodists all from the same origin but split over disagreements on scripture over time. That's a good thing if you ask me though, because every split is a potential decrease in influence over society, and that's at least a good thing. Let them fight among themselves and leave the rest of us alone.

There has been a very strong anti-intellectual movement in Christianity for the last hundred years or so in the United States.
This means, among other things, that there has been a rejection, on the part of Protestant Fundamentalists, of any kind of scholarly authority about what the scriptures mean, how they should be read, and so on.
They called this "common sense" Christianity when it started (and you should always understand the use of "common sense" in this context as meaning "no experts or scholars need apply").
What these folks said was that the average person, using "common sense" could understand the convolutions of scripture just as well as someone who had spent a lifetime studying it and studying the historical environment in which first Judaism and then Christianity developed.
This set the stage for what you describe above; all the different interpretations, all the different "spin".
I find this very ironic. This is the religious parallel to the political ideas of communism. No experts need apply, and the ideas of the common man are just as valid (ir not more so) as those of people who have spent their lives studying the subject..

While it would be nice to know Greek and Hebrew, I've already got too many languages swimming around my head, and it's hard enough to keep those straight.
SO, instead I go over to a friend's house to look at his Bible, which he has on his computer. It includes the Greek and Hebrew words that the Bible was translated from.
The ONLY reason I don't have it is because my internet is so horrible that every time I try to download it, it stops because my internet restarts.
So that's as close as I can get to actually learning Hebrew and Greek.
As far as I know, I've tried very hard NOT to put a "spin" on the Bible. I can't speak for anyone else.
Furthermore, my denomination has mostly stuck to the teachings as well. I don't agree with them fully, but I don't think that I'll ever find a church that I DO agree with fully.

True Christians do not put a spin on the Bible. To them, "all Scripture is inspired of God." They do not interpret it to fit their needs. For instance, so-called homosexual Christians say that their lifestyle is fine, and that Jesus doesn't mind what they do. But that is not what the Bible says. It clearly shows at 1 Cor. 6:9 that "men who lie with men" will not inherit God's Kingdom.
Although many feel it is acceptable to be in the military and still
Christian. Does the Bible agree? No. At John 13:34, 35, Jesus said that love would be an identifying mark of true Christianity. It's hard to show that love while trying to shoot someone.
Many "Christians" believe God is made up of 3 co-equal persons. Does the Bible support that view? No. There is not one verse that says 3 co-equal persons make up God.
While addressing God in prayer, Jesus said: "Your word is truth." John 17:17 There is only one truth. Most professed Christians are not practicing that truth.

There is only one truth, therefore only one church can be preaching a perfect message, theologically. Which one is it?
Christ came to earth as God, was God, taught a perfect message as God to his chosen disciples. He commissioned them to found his church, to teach them, and he chose those men for a specific reason and must have given them the tools to be able to teach infallibly, otherwise he would have founded a church that was able to teach incorrectly. How could God do that? Certainly, sin exists in the church, any church, but the teaching, the core truths, must remain perfect if we are to know God and know how to live.
Even though most Evangelicals would claim to believe the same core beliefs, I know this is not true. Granted, they will all preach that you need to believe and trust in Christ and you are saved... but once you get past that and into your Christian life, how are you to live? Protestant theology ranges widely in this area.
Which is in the one, true Church? That Church is the only church that has the authority to interpret scripture.

Well, I did today see an answer from a Christian which in response to a posting, suggested that every Christian should take from the Bible only that which accords with his or her personal philosophy.

You're an idiot. Every religion has some portion of it's believers put a "spin" on the "word of God". There are people (like you) all over, that can add their own prejudice to anything. Christians, Jews, Muslims & others have people in their religion that are in the "spin" business.

I don't put my own spin or ideals on any scriptures, The bible say when the Holy Ghost is come, HE WILL guide us into ALL truth. the Holy Ghost will not guide us into many directions on the same verse, There is only ONE TRUTH. And the True Saints of God will be led by the Holy Ghost.

i havent. but its hard for everyone to read greek and hebrew, it would be awesome, maybe even one religion? who knows. thats a great idea. but the most accurate translation that i know of is the new world translation. the translators stuck as close to the actual text, without any bias.
