I want to take my girlfriend out for dinner on new years eve and would like to go somewhere a bit more up market than we would usually go. I'd like somewhere quiet and relaxed, no screaming kids, something like a candlelit dinner for two. We dont want entertainment afterwards like discos or kareokes. Can anyone recommend a nice place in the Leamington / Stratford / Coventry area. Something like a posh hotel maybe (although we dont necessarily want to stay the night). If you can provide a link to a website for the place you suggest I would appreciate it.

Mallory Court is excellent - see http://www.mallory.co.uk Having visited for lunch when the Xmas decorations were up I can attest to the fact that it looks magical. It is a hotel - a Lutyens building - and proved a great venue for a special meal. A less expensive option is Simply Simpsons in Kenilworth - I don't know if they are doing anything NYE, but their website is http://www.simplysimpsons.com/. We're going again for a company Xmas do - it's a bit more special than the plethora of gastro pubs in the area and though its Michelin star has effectively transferred to Simpsons in Brum, its legacy is still evident.

Wildes Restaurant Leamington Spa

Hello,
I lived in Leamington Spa for 15 years and the place you must must must go to is Wildes.
It is opposite Tesco on The Parade. It is a cellar but done out really well. The food is upmarket but not overpriced. The wine list is excellent - offering topend expensive as well as really good more affordable wines for normal people!!
The atmosphere is great, really informal so you do not feel intimidated at all.
Super friendly staff as well.
This restaurant is the one place that we miss about not being in Leamington Spa any more.

Have you tried the italian ZIZZI? They are modern, clean and cool!
There is one in Poplar road Solihull, one in the Mailbox Birmingham, and one in Leamington too (but we haven't been to that one yet). They have a website, my partner and I go regularly and it is the best food I have ever tasted!

The Mailbox one is BRILLIANT!!! And has xmas trees and stuff outside, it is on the waterfront, it is romantic and classy!
Costs around £15 a head, and is brilliant.

There's also a great Sushi bar opposite Zizzi, and we can't resist looking in, the food moves around the restaurant on a conveyer belt, it's a lovely place!

In Zizzi you must try a dish called 'Calzone di pesce', oak roasted salmon in a pizza base wrap! I swear it is the most amazing thing I have ever eaten! When it arrives everyone goes WOW! Seriously you have got to try it! It is such good value for £8.50.

Have a look at their website. http://www.zizzi.co.uk/index.html

Simpsons in kenilworth is gorgeous, romantic as well but a little pricey!!! but well worth it. Also, New Hall Hotel (Sutton Coldfield way) or Ardencote Manor Hotel in Warwick..... enjoy!
