I'm so sorry to hear about your terrible experience - and the pain. I too suffer from costochondritis - and can relate to what you're going through.
When I am treated, I am merely given pain pills. Period.
I hope you find a better solution than I have found. I will be watching this space for advice for myself as well.
Best of luck to you.

Costochondritis itself takes 3-6 weeks to disappear. It is extremely painful and the treatments you are using are as prescibed. Costochondritis is also called Tietz's Syndrome. The cause is unknown and the syndrome usually affects older children and young adults and occurs more often in women than men. You didn't mention how long you have had this pain. I guess you just have to give it time, keep taking some motrin and apply the heat. It will resolve itself, just be patient and I know that is hard when you are in pain. Take care and good luck!

I just saw the responses from the other 2 answers. If conventional methods don't help you might want to go to your search bar and typ in "alternative treatment for costochondritis" and see what is available. Sorry I didn't mention this before.

Toni? Sorry I can't give you any real advice, other than don't give up hope. I have fibro and there are times when all I want to do is stay in bed and cry, but gradually the pain eases, and life seems ok again. I hope you feel better soon, Mel.

I am truly surprised at previous answers because chostochondritis is relatively rare and on presentation can sometimes be misidentified as potential myocardial infarction ('heart attack'). (In fact the Merck manual of Medical Diagnosis doesn't even give it a mention...)
While initially painful, Irritated rib joints rarely cause chronic (6 months+) pain, so your doctor is undoubtedly right to be further considering his differential diagnosis.

Sorry for your pain. I had this about 5 years ago. Anti-inflammatories and pain killers were the order of the day. Time was the healer.

Join the club; I have been living like this for six years and they still can't pinpoint it, and I can't even get disability because they don't know what's wrong with me. Oh, and I can't take a deep breath either. My artritis doc said "You may as well get used to it." I have been from doctor to doctor and none has been of any help. I sincerely wish you luck with this.
