Unless the thing that you fear can literally kill you, then you can overcome the fear. Remind yourself that it cannot kill you. Also realize and tell yourself that after you face your fear, you won't fear it anymore. Take a deep breath, then face it.
The paradox is that we have gain courage after we have faced the thing that we are afraid of.
"We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face... we must do that which we think we cannot." Eleanor Roosevelt
Best wishes.

I know about Fear.
There are two reactions to Fear: Fight or Flee.
We can take many steps to reduce our Fear, so that we can function. Example: You live alone in an apertment. You have a Fear that some one may break in while you are sleeping. Some solutions: Lock all doors and windows...have an alarm system installed.... Have a Pet dog, Dogs have incredible hearing. Also, have your cell phone charged and ready....Have objects that you can use to defend your self. Thess simple steps will reduce your free, not elinminate the fear.
Fear can overcome us, all of us. Fear can be controlled with a plan of action or a support structor in place.
Women are the targets of abuse and physical attacks. Have plans available to provide protection and support.
In the Military you are faced with situations that cause fear. All one can do is be properly trained, have working equipment and have confidence within your self and the people around you.
My friend was a physician in a Trama unit in a large hospital.
Often, he would be faced with a person with multiple injuries and open wounds. He had Fear. The fear of loosing the patient from a mistake in judgement. His solution was to do the basic check of the Vital signs. Those few seconds gave him composure and confidence to address the injuries in the order of impotence.
Fear may control you and me. From confidence and a plan we can control fear.
I suspect that you would have little Fear for your own safety, if you saw a small child in distress. You would control that Fear to save the life of a small child. I am certain of that.
Fear is normal. With confidence in your self and a plan, you will be successful in controlling your Fear.
Best to you.

Depends on how afraid you are. Obviously if I'm scared out my wits, I'll probably have no control over what I do but that's usually prevented by taking deep breaths, calling up a friend, assessing the situation in which why I may be afraid, and then maintain an optimistic way of thinking. You can also try the tough guy/girl approach of "I have no fear" - it works wonders :)

It's a very interesting question; fear is natural, you see, it tells you to stop when you're exaggerating in something or when certain action or circumstances may be harmful to your health and life...
However you can consciously control your fear in order to overcome certain situation that is inevitable and just have to be handled with...
In such situations best answer would be to focus on the problem and find the best solution to it as soon as possible; your actions are led by instinct, but you also use your mind simultaneously.
Good example would be dangerous situation when you're driving a car: someone is driving against you and you see, you have to act in order to prevent collision. You would have to do instantaneous calculation of your speed and direction and act by instincts as well...

My primary fear was a phobia...fear of heights. In my case the old adage of face your fears and conquer them worked.
I started by rappelling of low cliffs and finally out of helicopters.
The fears that normal people...almost all people...like am I doing the best for my family are always present for people. Just concentrate on what your are to doing to take care of your family and keep do it.
Hope that is of some assistance.

If your fear is a fear of being afraid, you may be suffering from anxiety, see your doctor, medication may help.
Sometimes it may help to do something to get your mind off of it, talking to someone else often helps.

Logic is the best way for me to overcome fear. Mostly we fear things that will logically never occur.

if it is true fear you have to confront it head on, if it is just worry that you may have something happen, realize that as different than fear.
