so when people kill in the name of religion,
if they believe in the same faith as you
and believe they will get into heaven
anyway, isnt it just proof that religion
is bizarre and flawed to say the very
least.

Religion: all religions that come about by mans own imagination, teach varying ways to please 'god', ritual, idols, superstition, good works etc, however, there is one religion that is unique, the true Christian religion is God telling us, who we are, why we are separated from Him, who He is and how He has provided a way back to Him through His sacrifice upon the cross. What of Judaism and Islam? They both point the way to Christ! The Jews rejected Jesus and are still waiting for the Messiah, although the Old Testament prophesies are fulfilled (Too many verses to quote here), the Qur'an of Islam, actual says in it's Suras(verses) that one should seek the 'Truth' by asking the people of 'The Book' (Sura X Yunus: 94), verses in th Qur'an also state that Isa (Jesus) should be listened to and be obeyed!!(Sura #43 Zukhruf:63). Mohamed didn't know what his final state would be, Jesus, on the other hand stated clearly, He (Iesus) is the Truth, The Way, and The Life! Religion, rather, Christ, means every thing to me.

It's an organised way of doind what is your highest goal in life. It's true that members of two different religions might well be inclined to hate each other purely for religious reasons, but it doesn't have to be like that, it shouldn't be like that. At the heart of all troubles, like wars, riots, etc is greed for land. In the Bible, Abraham let his nephew Lot choose which land he would live on and Abraham would go to another place. if only we could all be like that, there's plenty of land and wealth for every body with bickering and fighting over it.

(Think about it: The crusades was about who ruled in Jerusalem, The troubles in Ireland was about was about who ruled Ireland and who could live and walk on which particular street, The two world wars of the 20th century started when German powers invaded the sovereign territory of other nations, the 9/11 attacks were as a result (In the minds of the terrorists) of American forces setting foot on in Saudi Arabia, It is believed by many that the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is to do with oil and therefore land)

Religion has often been used as a cloak of respectability, and religion has liked it that way. They may suffer great calamity as a result. If tht's so, it's a shame they didn't pay attention to what they're supposed to be all about, instead of meddling in political affairs that didn't concern them.

If it goes, will we miss religion?

Religion to me means a group of people who are of the same belief system. That can be any belief syste...satanism, paganism, catholicism, atheism, etc. Spirituality is the term I choose to use in relation to my own walk with God as I cannot claim any particular belief system other than to say I follow the example Christ gave as my template for proper behavior. I suppose you would say I am Christian, however that is such a blanket term and applies to many denominations that I neither believe in nor follow.

Religion serves two purposes:

1) It instills a sense of morals and ethics. Granted this can be done without religion and should be done by your parents when you are growing up. But this can be used to reinforce the morals and ethics of the followers.

2) It gives us hope of our lives and also what lies beyond the veil to the next world.

Religion means meaning. One Supreme Being that you believe in changes your perspective about everything and changes you as a whole. For me, that Supreme Being is God. Everything got started in Him, and will find its purpose in Him. Once you believe in God, and you fully understand the truths that He wants you to realize, you will have a better or different outlook in life. God is the center of my religion. I am a Christian. He is my life.

Without Him, you and I are nothing. We will have no meaning or purpose. Everything will be utterly meaningless without God in our lives. Religion will not take you to heaven, but rather who and what you believe in. Jesus is the only way to heaven. He said, "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

i think PEOPLE cause friction in this world. there are plenty of people who don't belong to a religion that get into conflict on this earth. religion to me is a way of keeping people happy. it gives them a sense of being loved and watched over in this cold and lonely uncaring world.
also it's not religion thats flawed it's PEOPLE. although i believe there is one major flaw in religion: they try to change people and make them feel guilty for things that come naturaly instead of working with what's there they want to change us from the start of our lives.
in times past it answered questions in a simple but understandable way so people didn't sit around wondering about life and why the skys blue and what happens when you die, why do so many babies die so young etc. but went and got the harvest in. the grass grew cause god made it babies died cause the devil took em.
for people of a scientific time it's hard for us to understand but it was a way of understanding the world in it's entirety.
i personally don't belong to a religion or worship a specific god, but i can understand why people do.
also as humans judging is a natural instinct from long ago. quick, sub conscious judgement saved your life: is that vine a snake?, etc but in this modern world we judge sub consciously without setting clear opinions in our head we still go on instinct alot of the time. which leads me to strength in numbers and the desire to be right, there are so many factors to the frictions in our society not least that religion was designed when societies were much smaller but i'm gonna stop cause people are gonna look at such a long answer and skip it anyway.

The word Religion can mean anything from devil worshippers. to Denominations, Religion is Cruel, But Salvation is not, there is only One way of salvation, & that is through the Blood of Jesus Christ. So there is a very big difference between religion & salvation.

For me, religion is an outmoded set of thought patterns, rituals, books and scriptures that promote blind obedience to nonexistent magical beings. Religion has had its day, and should be laid to rest through adequate education.

I like to feel that it's a matter of personal choice, so therefore I'll never advise someone towards my way of spiritual thinking as our own beliefs are something we have to decide and work towards ourselves. Quote from PiL's 'Religion': Stained-glass windows keep the cold outside, while hypocites hide inside, with the lies of statues in their minds, where the Christian religion made them blind.'

I agree. It's the main reason for war. Also, it's a great way to control the masses & collect money. Come to think of it, do you want to start a religion with me? We can put up a big tent in my back yard. I know some musicians........
