Hi Joe, I thank you for your question so many have the wrong idea about idol worship and don`t seem to use the wisdom that God has given them.
the Israelites as you know fashioned a golden calf and bowed down to it when Moses was on Mount Sinai, this was in fact Baal worship and it had become a large part of the Hebrews worship while in captivity, God was indeed angry at this because after all Baal is actually another persona of lucifer.
now in the Catholic church we have the Holy Eucharist which is not Baal worship but the real and living presence of Jesus Christ, and since Christ is God the Son then how on earth can this be idolatry,I really believe that some Christians go way overboard with this regimented idolatry thing, and if they really understood the words and actions of Jesus at the last supper this would be an awakening of the Eucharist for them, but alas they will remain in their stubborness to the end.

I believe that just like the children of Israel when Moses went up the mountain to get the ten commandments that the people began to stray and say let us make a god. I believe they actually thought that they could make a representation of the true God and worship it, maybe they even reasoned and say that it is just a representation but it was still considered idol worship. We should never make any form of image, whether it symbolizes something as good and sacred as the last supper and worship it.

I don't think that anyone worships (loves reverently) the Eucharist, but the God it stands for. If, as I think some believe, it actually becomes God, then worshiping it is still worshiping God, not a bit of bread.

Remember, to worship is to love in an awe-filled way. Very few people feel that way about a tiny bite of food. (Especially if it isn't chocolate!)

Christians belong to various sects.

Each has slightly different way of worshipping. They except some kind of worship based on their interpretation and condemn other kinds.

In the Catholic church, the Eucharist that is being venerated is the actual, consecrated body of Christ therefore, you are worshipping, or paying homage to, Jesus Christ.

It should be. God commanded that we have no other god before him. If you spend time worshiping something other that God, then you are in error. This includes anything that takes the time that you are supposed to devote to God away. You don't need any object to worship God. God is a Spirit and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth. Worship God with you spirit. Nothing more is needed.
