Think about what's most important to you and then decide wether or not you should work it. If it's more important that you party and have a good time on New Year's Eve, then don't work. But, if you need the money ( I bartended 4 years in a row because I got a killing in tips) then work. You can get drunk and party any day of the year, but the money that you'll get working in a bar on New Year's Eve.. that's not going to come along very often.

I used to work in a hotel a few years ago and ended up working on New Years Eve for two years running. Not very nice. Could only have a drink after we had finished our shift on reception at about 11.30pm. Too late to head off anywhere so just stayed in the bar of the hotel. The only thing is that there is a great atmosphere so you will enjoy it.

If you're scheduled, you work. You don't take off just because it's a certain day. If you want certain holidays off (Christmas, Thanksgiving, etc.) and your work doesn't do that, work somewhere else. What if corporate knew that you were dating the boss? I'm sure that wouldn't fly. You have to ask off in advance if you want a day off. If you want NYE off then ask for it now, but if your BF is the boss and working there too, then why would you ask off, because chances are you want to be with him on NYE. Go to work, have a good time, party it up after, then go home with your bf and have a more personal intimate thing. Plan something if you want, even though you'll have to work it'll still be a good NYE.

Absolutely, everyone needs to do their share to cover holidays in year-round businesses and you should be no exception.
Hopefully the boss pays you a little extra and provides food or something to help you enjoy your new years at work but I'm sure the extra tips from customers will also make it worth your while.
You can enjoy yourself while working, just focus on having fun and making money.

I used to work evenings in a pub many years ago and I know at New Year I would rather be behind a bar than in front of it waiting to be served, if your fellas working then join him and have a good night together.

Most people are too intoxicated to work on New Year's Eve. Yay or Nay? I'll give the traditional New Year's Eve reply: BURP! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Well that all depends on where you work! If you work in a bar, pub, restaurant or club, it can be great fun and you get great tips. However, if you are on a waking watch over 25 elderley people and you are on your own, it ain't quite as jolly!

Spent years working Christmas Eve and New Year's and I say no, no, no!! You can never serve fast enough, can't get drunk and always get grumbled at because you don't instinctively know who is next to be served!
Don't buy a dog and bark yourself - get plenty of staff in and have a good night off with your boyf.

If all your friends are there - why not? You'll probably get good tips that night and you'll be with everyone you like. Especially if you need money - work that night. They should let you toast the New Year in along with everyone else.
