Dark molasses is what we commonly think of as regular molasses. there is also a light variety. Just the flavor is different. You can really use either in a recipe.

If you're in the UK, treacle should work well in place of dark molasses. If you're in North America...please forgive me if this sounds flippant...it's right next to the light molasses on the supermarket shelf. Dark molasses has a more robust flavour and darker colour than light molasses.

Dark molasses has a more intense and robust flavor than light molasses and you should find both at your supermarket. All molasses is the sweet residue from making sugar out of sugar cane.

I would recommend you use the dark brown sugar. Molasses is extract from raw sugar which looks similar to light brown sugar.
