I've graduated from faculty of engineering and i got "excellent" for my project, so i think i can help you.
1. collect information as much as you can
2. don't mention some thing you don't know on your research papers
3. be sure to mention your sources and professors
4. before the discussion of your project; try to take a general look at it and pretend that you don't know any thing about civil engineering and have a look at your work, see if it could give you an information about itself or not. if it does so you made it
5. be confidence because professors like it a lot
