Here is a totally new way and it has the real benefit of looking like a fried egg. Use a small frying pan and put in about half an inch of water with a teaspoon of vinegar, this is a common ingredient for egg poaching. When the water is hot but not boiling, crack the egg or eggs into the pan just like you would for frying an egg. Bring the water up to the boil gently and using a spoon pour hot water from the pan over the eggs. When it looks like a nicely fried egg it is ready. If you want a harder yolk then splash over the water for a little longer. It fits nicely on toast.
Have a great Christmas.

Use a deep frying pan rather than a saucepan. Boil water and have it at simmer point - not bubbling like mad.

Crack egg into a cup.

you can do the whirlpool thing or the vinegar thing but I dontr bother.

tip egg into water.

Using a spoon, turn the egg over gently in the water - and leave it.

Note - the egg has to be fresh. As eggs get older the egg white gets looser and you will never get a decent poached egg from it.

You can tell how fresh it is, if you crack it into a sauser and the yolk stands proud on top of a compact and firm white it is fresh. When the yolk sits amongst a large watery pool of white it is less fresh - it wont hurt you but it wont make a good poacher either!

This is the only way to poach an egg. Take a frying pan and bring to the boil about two inches ( 4 cms) depth of water. No need to add vinegar or stir it up BUT once the water is boiling turn off the heat. When the boiling water has settled down add the egg gently. Leave for three to four minutes depending on personal taste. If you then put the egg on toast spread with marmite you will have a super snack.

in case you opt for to do it like the cooks do it is really effortless and slightly messy, positioned a quite great pan of water on the boil. at the same time as that is heating up crack an egg right into a mug or bowl on the area. once the water is boiling warm and effervescent, stir the water so as that it is spinning quite quickly. Drop the egg into the centre and the egg white will spin around the yoke because it cooks making a impressive, stylish poached egg. it truly is how the cooks do it to make it from only a breakfast dish to worth of a eating position!

Add a small drop of vinegar to the pan. Swirl the water round and then break your egg into the water while it's swirling. Continue to cook on a gentle simmer NOT BOILING

Bring a pan of water to a simmer. Add a spoonful of vinegar. Swirl the water around and crack the egg gently in. It should hold together with the addition of the vinegar and the swirling water should twist around the egg to keep it central!

this will sound really silly but boil the water then put a tiny bit of vinegar in the pan. whisj the water until you have a dip in the water, crack the egg and drop it in. the spin of the water keeps it all together. if not microwave an egg in a egg poacher you can buy them from wilkinsons or most supermarkets

put a pan of water on to boil. wait untill you can see bubbles appear on the bottom of the pan, slide your egg in from a cup. cook for 2 mins, and use a slotted spoon to lift it out.
