I'm not nessicarily too keen on gift cards because I don't want the reciever of the gift knowing how much money I spent on them. Also because of reasons given about expiration and deduction.

Gift cards are a good idea, just make sure that they don't expire or have the money deduct as you don't use it. Wine too is a good idea. Anything that you see that you wouldn't necessarily want but is too cheap to pass up could be added to the pile. Also sweets are good for this too.

Wine is good. . .Gift cards are alright, but if you keep them around for a while, they'll come close to expiring or charging a fee depending on the card. . . . .Maybe some gift baskets (one for each a man or woman). . . .Or some various household knick knacks. You know, if you see a nice vase or something, grab it and you never know, it might come in handy, or you could just use it!

At my house, we only keep emergency gifts during the holiday season. My mom will buy a bunch of chocolate boxes and wrap them up. This way, if someone shows up at our place and they have a gift for us, we already have something and we don't have to feel bad that we didn't get them anything.
This year, we got some really nice gift baskets.

Nice bottles of wine always work for me. I keep a stash in my bar at home just in case.
