Prob basic question can anyone run me thru how 2 log in as an administrator on windows xp so i can run a computer check, wont let me do it when logged in as me and the only other option i can see is guest?

right... follow this step by step....

start menu

control panel

user accounts

from there select the account you use to log and and click on it

Modify the account by clicking on the 'change my account type' and from there you can change it from being a 'limited access' to an 'administrators' account....

Windows XP creates its first user account as 'administrator' and singns you in there by default. After that the admin can make new accounts and choose 'guest' or 'limited'.
You cannot upgrade your account from ltd to admin while you are logged in on an account with ltd privileges. You must be logged in as an administrator to make those changes.

Somewhere on your pc there must be an account with admin privileges. You should know which account it is and what the password is.
Contact the person who sold you the pc and explain the problem to them. They will talk you through how to log in to the default admin account.
But we can't tell you how to do it because we don't know the default admin password on your pc (we didn't install Windows and set the password) and trying to bypass that is hacking.

Start, Controll Pannal, User Accounts, Select Yours And Choose Type Then Select Administartor. If that dosent work turn ur computer off and then turn it back on but keep pressing f8 untill another window pops up then select safe mode then the computer will load to the menu screan then select administrator then go to start useracccounts create new account the type the name in and then select the account type to be administartor

Just another tip for you if you have anymore hassle with your PC. Click on START and window will open and click on HELP AND SUPPORT it has a question mark beside it. Type in a question and a list will come up which should help you dude.

Welcome to our world,W got out PC last year and it has taken until now to sort out the teething problems that go hand in hand with a new computer we got ourselves a book from Reader,s Digest called How to do just about anything on a computer it is well worth getting this book as it will tell you all there is to know GOOD LUCK

at the login screen tap cntrl alt delete a few times til the login screen changes and allows you to type in a name and password
