If there were no reward (salvation, eternal life, eternal happiness, etc) would we still believe? Or do we just believe in the usefulness of believing? People SAY they believe but if they really did they would be completely and utterly devoted to God and spend all their time for their religion. So do we all just believe in the usefullness of believing?

Talk about your curly question! I think the answer is different for different people. We all believe in something, for whatever reasons. Most people seem to want justification for their lives and their actions, and they pick and choose bits of their 'faith' to do it. Personally, I wouldn't attach the name of a deity to my actions because they are my own choice and my own responsibility, and I'll reap what I sow.

I really believe in God and Jesus and try to devote myself to them as much as I can. No one's perfect. He honors effort.

Belief and Non-Belief of GOD
The One and Alone Holy GOD
Even the attributes of GOD are not GOD, such as knowledge of GOD or power of GOD. GOD created all, about which one can think and which mortal makes with thought even that can never be considered as GOD.
Ideas of a mortal are just like the hands of mortal and with such hands mortal cannot touch the creator of thoughts.
Materials of the thought are all created elements and GOD is not made of elements. The birds of thought can never fly over GOD, but they fly over God’s Kingdom only. GOD is Holier than that because GOD is not man-thought or man made. GOD created the mortal and mortal cannot create even a seed. GOD can never be encircled or compassed even with the belief of infinity, because GOD is absolute in existence, beyond lies and truth. GOD is a fact in reality believed or not. All minds are cosmic and all brains are universal with the power of consciousness.
Eyes see more than the ears that hear and all minds think more than the eyes that see. And man makes not the real but the images only. And images keep on changing being images. And things resembles not with GOD. GOD is untouched, unseen, and unfelt. GOD is just believed or un-believed and un-belief of GOD is another belief that is again directly concerned to GOD. And belief is an answered satisfaction of the believers questions concerned with existence. A non-believer cannot see what a believer can see. Believer can see GOD but not with the eyes and can hear GOD but not with ears, but with the heart who believes. Seeing is realizing and realizing is seeing GOD, not more than belief one can have as a proof of one’s own being. Simply if we exist GOD exist.
Denial
Act of the Denial of GOD is always performed against GOD and Existence of GOD. In the world of “GOD”, those who deny GOD, they deny acceptance of their GOD only. It’s a ponder-able fact that whatsoever exists can be denied, only and whatsoever do not exists cannot be denied, even.
Since GOD exists so acceptance of GOD is denied. In the belief of believers, GOD exists as saviour. In the minds, in which GOD is denied, nothing else but the non-belief exists only.
The denial of GOD is due to the personal interest in sins. Sinners reject the belief because GOD permits not their sins. In the world of fact, “belief in GOD” is a blessing of GOD, for those only that avoid sins and honour GOD only.
The Absolute Creator
Almighty GOD, the Creator who creates and no one is able to create like GOD.
A Mortal can never create a male or a female.
Fish lay eggs and eggs lay fish and every fish is a male or a female, in the world of GOD.
By the grace of GOD, mortal can make many things, but mortal can never create a male or a female. Without male and female birth of a seed is impossible. And even if a mortal can make a model of a seed, it’ll be without soul. And seed without a soul is not a seed because it cannot grow. And soul of the seed formulates its life and body.
Mortal must ponder over the egg and should think about the water turning into a living creature. Mortal must observe how a seed breaks and comes out of the earth and then turn into a green tree. And then how flowers and fruits appear on the tree. And how after that they change their colour and ripe. And what a time when fruits change into the sweet flavours of their kind. Only One Alone Almighty GOD holds all this. And creations resemble not with GOD.
Mortal when sees the sweets of a sweet maker, never reject the idea of the sweet- maker but when mortal sees fruits he has doubts in the making of the fruits. And these doubts never accept the fruits as a creation of GOD. Though fruits are much more complicated in creation, better in taste, useful for health and identical in shapes, colours and flavours and then contain their seeds which mean trees of their kind. Though mortal knows that a mortal is not capable of making males and females and their seeds yet claim one’s self a wise and refuses the existence of the Creator.
Let the mortal know that the knowledge of the mortal is sufficient to accept the existence of Absolute Creator; it’s only one’s doubts that make one unwise.
There must be no doubt in the Creator because no one can make a seed and never will be able to create a thing which comes out of a seed or egg. Be kind to your soul, believe in one Alone GOD performed good deeds according to the GOD commandments and wait for the Day of Judgment coming ahead
