It really depends on where you're going to get the tattoo. I have one on each arm and one at the small of my back. The arm tattoos were only sensitive as the needle approached the back of my arm, near where the soft belly of the arm begins. As for the tattoo on the small of my back, which was my first tattoo, it didn't hurt much at all, although it was on the spinal area. I could, however, feel the vibrations from the tattoo gun go up and down my spine. Generally speaking, the act of getting a tattoo will feel like a sunburn. Everyone has a different level of pain tolerance so you have to ask yourself how much a sunburn hurts to you. I find it ridiculous that a lot of people cry when getting a tattoo because it doesn't hurt much at all. The only pain is AFTERWARDS, especially if your bra, jeans, or other articles of clothing are touching the tattoo site. There is a simple way of helping with this pain though. Buy some ointment like Neosporin---apply just a dot because the oils in it can cause tattoo ink to fade faster. This will help with pain and prevent infection. You want it to be coated but you do not want the tattoo to shine--if it does, you've applied too much. Do this no more than three times a day. Now, answering your question specifically regarding my experience. The tattoo on my left arm was about a 4, the tattoo on my right arm was about a 1, and the tattoo on my back was about a 5.

i got a few myself and I can say the ankle does not hurt that much-maybe a 5 and the lower arm on the inside is about a 6 or 7 cause of the nerves running there. shoulder is ok, that was a 4. bones may hurt but that depends on the person and how much pain you can take.

I would say the back hurt the most but I got over that and had 2 more done on my back. In my opinion, it's going to hurt anywhere you get it done at but in the end it's all worth it. all together I have 15 tattoos.

About a 5-6. While I was getting it done I was thinking, what else can I get? hahaha so obviously didn't hurt too much. One of my friends told me it was about an 8. We both got ours on our lower backs. For me it's been more annoying taking care of it afterward (applying all the cream and not being able to scratch and not having clothes rub on it etc)

I have a couple of tats and none of them hurt bad enough to prevent me from getting another one!

Everybody is different. Like anything else, if you are paranoid or overanxious when you go, it may hurt more than it needs to.

If you are getting one, try a small one to test your tolerance to the pain. If you can hang, go for it. Bony parts are a little more sensitive but you have already read that.

my experiance:
on my back: maybe a 3 or 4, its was more annoying than anything
on my wrist: like a 6 or 7, it hurt wayyyy more.
it depends on where you get it. i was able to block it out for the most part, just keep talking to someone, or focusing on an object. some people take it better than others. i'm a big baby.
on my back it hurt more as time went on.

It really depends on your pain treshold level because it differs from one person from the other. For example, it may be a scratch of a kitten for sum but for others it may be a bite of a crocodile. But it will help if you had previous injections intra dermally (just the beneath the skin) and you will have a measure of your pain treshold on needles.
