a lab is trained the same as any other breed - you must be consistent. Labs arent xceptionally intelligent dogs (compared to border collies etc), however they learn pretty well (hence why theyre used as guide dogs). You can use food rewards (this is a positive reinforcement training) as labs are especially food obsessed - remember though that you need to give less food at meal time otherwise you will get an overweight dog. Labs are especially prone to obesity as they are like ***** vacuum cleaners!
A good start to training is teaching your dog to sit - using a food reward you hold the food in your fist, so the dog can't see it but allow your dog to smell it. Then, raise your hand above your dogs head - the act of your dog looking up causes the bum to drop. As you give the command, you say "Sit". When you dog sits, give the food reward and praise, then give a release command (such as "play" or "free"). Remember to only reward when your dog has done as commanded, never scold for not doing it right and lots and lots of praise! Don't over train - keep training to 5 min sessions as your dog can become confused and frustrated (remember they have short attention spans!), and you can get frustrated too and this comes out in your tone!
Regardless of your training method, make sure it is consistant.
There are quite a lot of training schools that you can attend - this is a great opportunity for you to socialise your dog as well as provide mental stimulation for your dog. Alternatively there are some good pages on the web - try and find training methods that only use positive reward systems though (you would like to keep doing what your told if you get some benefit from it, and so does your dog).
Good luck!

Ask your vet for the name of the school near you.

Call your vet and the schools for doges.

This is not good if not trained right, they have to be destroyed, some must start soon, some should have started long time ago.

Do not wait, you can read up on the Internet and the books in the library, but a good school is the only answer.
